Ole man/new member looking for some help on upgrading my tunes. I've read alot of the tutorials and figured I can do the install with some instructional help.......but just alittle slow to jump.

I have a 2007 GMC Acadia with the base line stereo system. It has "A" pillar tweeters and a 6.5 sprk in each door. I do want to keep my stock head unit.

I have already replaced the door spkrs with Polk Audio 2way, db 651, in hopes to help the system.....but they are underpowered. I did not take the stock tweeters out of the front circuit just to see how it sounded. As a result the volume level is lower than the rear circuit.

Keep in mind that i'm lookin for clear crisp sounds more than the thumping.

$300-$500 budget.....with my install labor( which may run it into the thousands ....

So.... what should be done for a GOOD mid level system?

5 ch. amps, good or bad?

Change tweeters out to aftermarket or just remove from system?
Would new tweeters require a crossover to run them off front circuit?

Been looking at the JL Audio , "Flatwedge" 8" sub.enclosure. Probably smaller cheaper ones out there....?

Is there a wiring harness out there that will plug into my HU and the amp for all the connections ....besides dc power ?

As U can tell I ain't been around this stuff for 25 yrs and I see ALOT has changed.

    Any help appreciated

    first of all. welcome.

did you test the sound of the front speakers with out the factory tweet wired up? love polk BTW.

what happened up front is now your head is powering 3 speakers not 2 so each one is getting less power than 2 were.

you can add an amp to help out. i have a 5 ch. its a great all in one solution to your setup.

    you have a few options.
1). go with the 5 ch and get a small sub. amping all the speakers in your SUV.

2). get a 4 ch. amp the fronts and a sub leaving the rears to run of off the deck power.

if your not into loud booming bass then an 8 or a 10 will do fine in a small enclosure.

you will need to find a line out converter with a remote turn on to power up your amp.

one more question. did you replace all the speakers with polks or just up front?

No ...I did not try front spkrs by themselves. Just removed stock and plugged in new Polks. Will the 2 way polks be enough for the highs or do i need the pillar tweets? Should tweets be amped? or is that where an external crossover comes in?

I replaced all my 6.5 door spkrs with the same Polks.I did use shallow model in rear doors.

U say i need to find a line out converter. Would that be what connects the HD to the amp or gives ithe capability ? Would that be a part that a stero shop should have or online purchase? ballpark price?

Sorry for my dumbness, THANKS for info.

been readin some more.......I'm getting lost at the HD transistion. Use speaker wires out of my HD unit to the line converter. Is this where the plug and play plastic plugs get used or just cut the wires and splice?
Out of converter to amp with rca plugs. then out of the amp channel outputs (using pairs of speaker wires ? ) to each speaker or into another plastic plug or splice back to stock wires?

There seems to be good and better line converters. Some have level and gain controls on them ...would that be the best to have for better control?

    Thanks again

amping the tweets wouldnt hurt them. excessive power can though. so dont go crazy with your amp choice. 75~100 watts per channel will do fine. since the power will have to be divided by 3 speakers you may be able to go with a lil more power up front.

the line out converts speaker outs to rca outs. or (i just thought of this) you can look for an amp that takes speaker inputs. you will have to figure out the remote turn on for the amp tho.

i know walmart sells an inexpensive LOC for around 18~20 bucks. made by schoshe.
