My 2004 Grand Cherokee still has the original battery in it which means it’s probably time to replace it before I get stuck somewhere with a dead battery. I have been told by many people to go with an Optima battery but I am unsure of which one to get. I plan on doing a small system this summer (500watts 4 channel to the speakers, and 500 watts mono to a sub or two.) My other issue is I do not drive my car every day and in most cases only once or twice a week. I am thinking the yellow top would be better for the system, but would the red top give me more reliable starts? Thanks in advance.

both will work fine. i have a red top and it done me good so far. if it ever goes i would upgrade to a yellow for more reserve capacity.

so if you can afford it get the yellow, but the red is good too.

you need to know what group size your jeep takes.

Optima's website doesnt have my year Jeep listed on their guide, any idea where else I can find out the group size?

Look at the battery and there should be a little white sticker on top of it saying 068(for example) or whatever and underneath it will say what Ah it is. The 068 or whatever is the group size.

If you are looking to save a buck, just get a Duralast Gold from Autozone. You really don't have a lot of power going on there so I think you would be fine. I mean I personally run that much RMS on just a plain generic walmart battery and have no problems unless I am cranking it all the way which is where I get a little bit of dimming. I am running about 750watts rms with a 2000watt max just to give you an idea of what I run.

I would lean towards Kinetik or Deka over optima. I know a lot of folks either love optima or hate them. Through personal experiences I wouldnt ever buy one again.

My Duralast Gold has served me well for over two years...I have 1500 watts rms and it does fine.

I also have 2 duralast golds in both of my cars and have had no problems at all. The optimas have more reserve but unless your going to run the system with the engine off you probably wont need it.

I think i'm only using a AC delco battery. would that be good enough or will i have to buy a better battery?
