I started a thread a while back about were car audio was going, well I just read this in the paper today.

No more CD players in cars?

TODAY'S TALKER: CD players in automobiles could go the way of eight-track tapes with in-dash systems like one Ford Motor Co. and Microsoft Corp. are jointly producing to link cars with cell phones and personal music players. The "Sync" system, being unveiled today, connects popular iPods and all other digital music players to in-dash software through a USB port. Drivers will be able to pick songs, artists or genres using voice activation or controls on the steering wheel. The system also links Blue-tooth-capable smart phones and personal digital assistants to the car's electronics.

I think they are jumping the gun on that one. Way too soon to try to phase out CD players.

I think it will be a gradual change, like the change from Cassatte to CD. But I think it is Inevitable. The main reason people are using Ipods for example is to hear what they want to hear when they want to here it.

What Ford and Microsoft are doing is just the beginning.

almost every car company now includes the "ipod jack". Only seen a few offering bluetooth stock, but its only a matter of time. Once the world sees digital as a good thing, it will be a relatively quick shift. Just think how fast the transition from VHS to DVD was.

Well I think they should still retain the cd player but just add on a usb port.

It will take time but just think, 10 years ago everyone was using cassette tapes and now for the most part cars that have them are considered old.

Ipods do seem to be the shhit in the car these days, because of the fact that you can store a ton of music in them.which means less clutter in the car and no more fumbleing for cd's while driveing.i cant tell you the last time i used my cd player for an actual cd.

it's better than a cd changer thats for sure, and you can take it with you.

as far as the cd player going the way of the cassette player.not for a long time. not until you get a personal player to sound as good as a cd.

Ipods are the **** right Now.. but mp3s are just data-Information, it is no longer a Wave file from a store bought cd. It is converted and compressed into information that the computer can understand like MP3, WMA, AAC, MP4 files and also so that it wouldn't take a day to download a song over the internet. One song from a store bought cd if copied to the computer as a wave file would be about 60 mega bytes of info. But when you convert that wave file to an mp3 or wma file it ends up being only say 7 mega bytes at 320kbs-High quality.

I'm getting to my point lol. So now you have music that can be stored on a micro chip as data! So They have realized this and a lot of aftermarket companies are making decks with usb ports just like your computers and now they have aftermarket decks that have a usb 2.0 port and a hard drive built in the deck! So now say the hard drives is 10 Giga Bytes, that would hold about 1500 songs at 320Kbs. Ipods will always be around but there wont be a need to integrate them into a car as an accessory. Don't forget you will be able to download music through the air as your driving down the street very soon. You can already do it with cell phones.

I'm curious as to who will win, the cell phone companies or blackberry, laptop companies, could be anyone. Someone needs to put all the signals flying around out there in a box with a menu that you can choose which signal you want. Actually there is something like that maybe i can find it on the internet again and will post it. It's worth about $12,000.00 or some crazy amount.

Driving my Hybrid Electrolytic G5000XSR, hovering at 3 feet above ground i come up to the next Magnet Wall doing about 782 MPH and get ready for the G force that will occur on my next turn as the Magnet Wall Propells me into the next trajectory! Simple process of magnetic theory- opposites attract similar repells as my Hybrid takes a wicked left turn at an angle of 87*. It is able to do this because it has a huge switchable polarity Electromagnet which is Thermally cooled to a temperature of -880 degrees of course. Duh everyone knows that. That way there is no resistance. It's a straight line now to home, sit back and crank up the Slayer music video that i downloaded and is now playing on my windshield.

tech is awesome.. And cars are awesome. It makes sence that cars would have lots of stuff intergrated into them. I like the idea. I mean, they already have computers in cars. they just cost too much and are hard to use.

but check this out. I remeber about 5 years ago hearing about bluetooth and how it was going to be able to change our lives. having a bluetooth phone and bluetooth appliences would mean that we could be at the office and call our oven at home and preheat our dinner before we even got into our cars. That's just awesome..

My PS3 has bluetooth controllers.. I rememeber when wireless controllers were all the rage... but they sucked cuz they were directional..and lost power all the time. with bluetooth.. it's seemless. it's awesome. i love it.. oh yeah.. and i'm just waiting for the day that wifi is free and avaliable everywhere.!!!

    TECH RULES!!

oh yeah.. (i'm also a closet geek that built his own computer from parts.... and i'm a gamer, lol! )
