i have a 1996 f-150 regular cab and i plan on purchasing subwoofers within the next month. my problem is that there is hardly any room behind the seat. i have looked at the pioneer flat 10" subs but i really want subs that can handle alot of power. i listen to everything from hardcore to ska. i would like to keep the budget around 400-500 if possible. i allready have a decent deck and speakers so all im looking for is subs and an amp. if anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm gonna make the same suggestion to you that I made for someone else. Loud is all about the box so I'm gonna suggest this ProBox.

    http://www.proboxrocks.com/superbass/11240SPB.shtml

Its 8-inches deep at the botton and 5-inches at the top. It fits most trucks.

Choose any woofer you like. Choose an amp that has the same RMS power rating of the woofer. Even better choose an amp with an RMS rating 10-20 % more than the rating of the woofer.

Hey Ranger if I took out my 12 inch L7 out of my sealed Kicker box and put it in one of those boxes what kind of decibal increase or sound quality differance could I expect??

Typically about 3dB for a ported box. These boxes are well built and well designed. Whats really cool is that you can paint them to match the interior of your car.

The intensity of the bass will increase considerably. Depending on the box prices range from about $125 and up, but they are well worth it.

There are so many good amps out there. For inexpensive I like the Power Acoustik PS2-820 (thats what I put in my son's car).

You should be able to contact ProBox, from info on there web site, or I have the phone number at work and I can get it for you Monday.

I may get the PS-820 for myself

I told you, they are cheap but they seem to be really tough. So far I have no complaints about them. In three years of handling and selling these amps, I have seen one failure. And that was last month.

    So far they are tough.

earlier you said that it is good to get an amp that puts out 10-20% greater RMS rating than the sub. isnt that bad for the subs?

get a JL W7 12" sub and a 1000 watt amp, I just got one for my car. AWESOME!!! sounds like 2 15" subs. THE BEST BY FAR!!!

Most speaker damage happens because of lack of power which typically leads to clipping. Clipping will kill any speaker in short order. I have found that slightly over powering a speaker will not hurt it.

The 6-1/2-inch centerchannel in my truck would be a good example. It is rated at 60-watts RMS. The amp powering the center is rated at 100-watts RMS. I'm an old Rock n Roller and I really like to hear my AC/DC cranked up. This set up has been in my truck for many years, and no problem. The speakers in the doors are all over powered but by only 10 watts.

thanks everyone for helping me with this stuff and giving me some knowledge about subwoofers...

i was looking into these infinitys
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7730164&type=product&id=1140392384272
but now i have heard them and i really wasnt all that impressed, mainly because they distorted pretty easily when music with hard hitting bass was played.

    i did find these subs
    http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_7817.html

i read an article online about them...
    http://www.caraudiomag.com/testreports/0311cae_infinity_kappa_perfect_car_stereo_subwoofer/

after reading about them...though alot of what they said maid no sence to me at all, they seem to be what im looking for.

has anyone has any experience with these before?

do you think they would be worth getting?
the site seems to have good prices on them
theyre about 140 each and that is about the most i could pay per sub due to all the other expences.

    thanks in advance

Give these subs a shot. If they don't fit in the box there is a shallow mount version. I bought a couple from cartronix and found this site to buy one more. This price is a great value. Over 50% off MSRP. I have 3 in a slot ported box in the bed of my Silverado wired at 1.3 ohms and I hit 149.6.
