Last Saturday NJ passed a law saying that you can no longer smoke indoors in public places. Obviously this hits bars hard, but I glad they finally came around and did it. What do you guys think?

Personally, being a non-smoker Im glad as hell they finally decided to go through with it. I come home reaking of ciggarettes, my hair reaks of ciggarettes, my eyes are irritated....oh god, I thank thee. I know the whole wa wa wa they are taking away are freedoms but come one now you are free to kill yourself as quickly as you can smoke them just dont sign me up for it. I wouldnt mind it if there was some venitlation in these places so the air could atleast cycle but walking into bars nowadays is just painful. And besides Im wasting precious money on all that cologne I have to spray to cover that disgusting smell, cant they make it smell atleast half decent. Im sorry guys this law just makes sense to me. If you want to smoke, do me a favor and go outside, or just stay out there you know you are chain smoking those things anyways when you are drinking, lol.

    GOOD RIDDANCE!

Yo Bro, My rights have been stepped on big time. I'm a smoker, and I think the new law sucks big time. All you whinny non and ex-smokers cry my hair my clothes. Don't you know how to take a shower? The reply of second hand smoke also bites it. If it was some big breasted woman blowing smoke into your face you would just smile and continue the conversation wouldn't you?Wait till they pull you over and ticket you for having the music too loud in your car. Then you'll be crying about your rights. Where will it stop, what will be next?

I'm a smoker, and I think that the laws regarding indoor smoking suck, but I understand why they are making them. If I wasn't a smoker, I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't want to smell it, either. I can smell the smoke on me sometimes and it's pretty repulsive. I have a five year old daughter and I don't smoke in the house because of her, or in the car with her, for that matter. Evidently I'm more concerned for her health than my own, but I guess that's what parents do. I have heard of some places in california where you can't smoke in your car (I think that one's bullcrap), and one small town where you can't smoke outside if a nonsmoker asks you not to (the guy who passed that one should eat lead). In a restaraunt, yes.. Protect everyone - food, and children, and other patrons. In a bar - no. what's next?, outlawing drinking in bars? I'm okay for having nonsmoking bars if the owner chooses, but a blanket law outlawing smoking in all bars is communistic. I don't like what goes on in gay bars (not that I go to them, but I'm pretty sure what goes on there) SO.. do I go to gay bars and complain about the gayness? - no.. I avoid gay bars.. My choice, exactly how it should be. It's like going to a rodeo and complaining about the smell of the horse crap.. don't wanna smell it? don't go, then. Don't like smoking, don't go to a bar (where smoking has been part of the atmosphere for hundreds of years), but that's too simple for the spoiled rotten bitchers that get thier way and are changing america into china. pretty soon we'll be killing babies because they're the wrong sex. I hope I don't offend anyone, those are just my thoughts.. sorry for ranting..

Personally Being a non-Smoker also, but a person who ENJOYS FREEDOM MORE, thinks it is ****ing crock of ****

if you as a non-smoker dont want to be around smokers DONT GO TO A BAR THAT ALLOWS SMOKING, nothing prevented the bar owners from making their places of business smoke free before the ban. If enough people complained and stopped visting a bar due to the smokers the owner would have made it non-smoking, however since most smokers also drink in excess;) they appeal to the majority of their customers and allow smoking.

Civic, I like you, I have known you for a Long time (over the internet) I am shock you support these measures.....

I dont like Civics, I think they are dangerous, I am going to push to bann civic ownership.......

    Same Logic

Ancient.. thank you for that viewpoint.. It's to see a non smoker share the same views about freedom of choice. I'm happy to know that like minded people can get along, even though thier habbits may differ. This is the same reason I don't watch soap operas-- I think they suck, but I don't muttle through them and then complain about it to the producers. blah blah..
But I do like civic's - they taste like chicken:D

Although MichealP has changed his name to The Ancient to fool the Feds, he is still the same freedom loving hippie of the good ole days. Just teasin ya man, and by the way I drive a maxima now so please respect all 6 cylinders and 5spd tranny.

No bar owner in their right mind will ban smoking, simply because they will lose all their business. In a bar, I feel its safe to say that 75% of the people are smokers. It just that drinking and smoking go hand in hand, kinda like Duke Lacrosse players and rape allegations:D . Im guessing you not a fan of the seatbelt law, its the same idea. Its the government making a decision for a person who is incapable of making the right one for himself. I think its great, and most people who go through an accident without one wisen up very quickly. Dont believe me, lemme give you all my friends numbers.

Just because something has been the standard for the past 100 years doesnt make it right. Smoking is for suckers and I say that proudly. And trust me I have done some pretty stupid **** in my life but falling for something like ciggaretts is just ignorance. Lets not pretend like its something great either, a buncha my friends are cursing themselves for starting because they cant quit and thats a shame.

Quit bitching guys its not like your precious ciggs are banned, just step outside and start talking to that hunny to your right. Personally I might start pretending like I smoke cuz chatting up girls smoking outside is so damn easy.

We will bicker and bitch about this till our tongues fall out and some of us die from lung cancer:eek: :D , but its a lot easier for you to step outside than for me to breathe that **** for 4 hours.

    Touche, biatches!

    LOL

P.S. That whole thing on giving you tickets for loud music makes perfect sense. I own a car, I own a system, but I dont feel the need to drive through my complex with my vision blurring from the bass and the windows furniture shaking inside peoples houses. I understand its your car, your system, YOUR FREEDOM but how about growing up and being considerate of the other human beings living around you. Same idea with smoking.

Cmon fellas cant we all just get along?

I'm confused! Didn't you start this post to see how people felt about this? Or was it just to get stroked by people who agree with you?

yup.. off on another tangent, so easy to do. My main focus when bitching about the blanket laws is just this: -Freedom of choice - having that taken away, and being expected to deal with it.. we are all so used to having freedoms taken away, that each new one suprises us less, and becomes easier to accept, the more often it happens. I go to an establishment every thursday (okay, you got me - it's a bar) where they have a dinner special and a live band. I meet with a group of friends and we challenge our tolerances. I like to smoke, I like to eat, and I like loud music, but for me, these do not go hand in hand. I eat outside (in the veranda) because the smoke bothers me while I'm eating. Sometimes the music is too loud, and it annoys my eardrums, then I will return to the veranda. Think about it.. If you had weak eardrums and loud noises were painful, would you go to a concert and bitch about the db's? No, you'd avoid the concert alltogether. And I would applaud you and say that you made a great decision. would you go to a body shop and complain about the smell of primer? - no -
I smoke, and smoking annoys me.. I'd be a hypocrit if I ever asked anyone not to - (except in my home) - If I choose (choice) to go to a place where I know that things there will annoy me, I can choose to (choice) deal with it, (choice) ignore it, or (choice) take measures to make it less annoying without asking others to accomodate me. remember, I was the dumbass who went there in the first place (choice).

When you go to a concert you are there FOR THE MUSIC, when you go to a body shop the smell of primer is part of the job they do, if you go to a bar the only smell should be of sweet sweet liquor and perfume, lol. The smell of smoke is just a secondhand annoyance that has become accepted in our society. A better example would be if you go to a hookah bar and you complain about the smell of flavored tobacco, but to be quite honest that smells gooooooood. The smell of ciggs is the most disgusting thing ever, especially in the high doses we have to tolerate at bars.:D

I agree that the smell is gross, dude, and I admit that. I think one of the nastiest things in the world is the smell of ashtrays.. my complaint is that in a spoiled rotten society, ten people can complain and thwart a good time that thousands of people wanna have.. for example:

dangit, I WANT to see janet jackson's nipwear at the superbowl.

minorities rule the country, havent you guys figured that out yet? I dont mean that by race or anything, but the people who bitch the most get what they want. Money has an impact too so yeah. Me? Im a weekend cigar smoker. Not a big fan of cigarettes but i believe that if thats how you want to die, im down. I dont expect people to stop me from riding a motorcycle because it can kill me. Im ok with stopping smoking in restaurants. But bars? Hell some bartenders had cigarettes sitting on the counter for someone who wanted one.

    More accurately...

...the new law states that it is illegal to light-up within 25 feet of a smoke-free edifice.

I live in NY, they passed those here a few years ago. I'm definitely all for it. I'm a non-smoker. I do enjoy the scene of going to bars. At first, yes, alot of people were against it. Honestly, there were a few places that eve went out of business due to fewer customers. Now, a few years later, though, 90% of smokers will agree, they agree with the law. They now see and understand what the deal with the law is. It's not a question of personal choice, it's a question of public safety, it's a question of taxpayer dollars into the medicare system, and it's a question of morals, and public acceptance. I dont' agree wiht seeing so many kids smoking. I don't agree wiht all of the worthless so called parents who BUY their kids cigarrettes. I don't want MY kids smoking someday, and I hope that good parentiong alone will be able t prevent that. I know it did with me.

Personally, I view smoking as harmful, dangerous, and self-destructive. Same wiht any form of drug and even Alcohol. I drink occassionally. I drink when I either have a place to stay, or have a DD. I drink occassionally because it's legal, small amounts of alcohol in the body actually do the body good, it's NOT addictive, and it does not have to injuct onto other people's rights.

Wait a year or 2, and see just how much MORE enjoyable it will be to go out when there is no more smoke in the air. Believe me, ask a majority of people from states that have made these laws, most poeple will agree that it has made going out a much more enjoyable time.

the only thing that is messed up about the new law in nj, is that smoking hasnt been banned in the casinos.

the law is in place for the workers, not the people in the bars. i can understand why they are trying to protect waiters, waitresses, bartenders, and any other employee at these bars/restaurants. but what about the casino workers? why isnt there concern for them too? sure the casinos do have non smoking areas. but get this, the Borgata is doing some remodeling, and they needed to shut down an area of the casino to do this, so what part do they shut down? you guess it, the non smoking area.

my point is, if they are going to ban it, ban it everywhere. damn i hate new jersey.

I am also a smoker and live in NYC and i think the new laws suck. i even heard there are places in the US where you can't smoke outside at an open cafe/restaurant and even in some parks and even some restriction on your own home if you live in complex and some one complains. Now I could see if you were inside and it would bother someone but outside or in your home is just plain discrimination I think! What is next? :puke:
