Question about speakers

    i installed a new stereo and 4 speakers, and my left front speaker wont work, i checked all connections...and idea why they wont work?

    do you get any sound at all....

    possibilities...

    short in the wire (ruled out if the previous speaker was working)

    bad front left channel on the HU

    bad speaker

    If you touched the wires together during the install, and had turned the head unit on - you could have smoked a channel.

    The tiny little amp in the HU isn't fundamentally different than the big amps you buy for your trunk...

    Amps are only stable down to some impedance - and none to a dead short... :eek:

    So, if you touched the wires together - that's a dead short.
    zzzzt! :(

    If not, one possibility is a bad speaker.
    But that's unlikely.
    ...and easy to test - take a "known good" speaker, and hook it up to that wire. ;)

    Another possibility is that there's a bad connection.
    Possibly, as fundamental as a slide terminal slid right off. ;)
    That would be the first thing that I would check.

    About a year and a half, two years ago I had a crimp "uncrimp". Just because you crimp two wires together, it doesn't mean it's a solid connection. Shi...Stuff happenss. Time to check, recheck, and check again :)
