Besides, the Bible is a set of stories and analogies that help people understand Christian concepts... not verbatim recounts of events, and detailed minutia to be picked through... although some people can't see beyond that sort of interpretation.

The Bible says God created the earth... the universe... everything.
Who says he just plucked them there?
"on the first day... on the second day... and then from Adam's rib he..."
Just stories, describing a concept in terms that make it easy for anyone of any intelligence to picture it in their own little minds. I definitely believe that people are smarter today than back then... and believe that these ancient books had to be written to play down to the uneducated masses of the day.

Who's to say that 'the way it actually went down' wasn't specifically a long arrangement of prolonged events?
Who's to say that God didn't create evolution?
Who's to say that science isn't in fact supporting Christianity?
    It is in other ways...
Of course, if you cling too much to the detail of the bible, rather than the concepts that god-knows-who was trying to communicate in writing lord-knows-when, so many thousands of interpretations and revisions ago... so many viewpoints, authors, revisions, years... wow.

Personally, I believe in God... and don't get hung up on details of the text.
Actions were created by God... the text was created by Humans.

To not believe in god because of the text has some inconcistencies, by that standpoint. ;)

Or maybe not shallow enough? Perhaps god created oil, but so the oil can be explained he created fossils as well?

I believe the Bible was meant to teach the masses proper conduct and the right way of living. Thats about it.
