DLS, if you can't (or don't want to) afford Focal.

    exactly the point, my friend!

mine ended up costing $79 i believe.
the guy is an excellent seller, and i purchased my set upon the recommendations of Sandt38 and Geolemon... i don't think you'll go wrong on those.

    That is, of course...
if you really want to go with components, versus coaxials.

installing components can be an elaborate thing, where coaxials are made to be easy and sound good in weird places, like the stock holes lol.

I just want you to end up happy with the result, whichever route you choose.

stock locations are not necessarily BAD either, you might get lucky... i know of one SQ competitor in particular who got *Really Damn Lucky* with a 5.25" comp set in stock locations in a Jeep Cherokee.

btw, i threw coaxials in the junk car, just for fun, and while they ARE enjoyable, i definitely notice where they are. My ears are "pulled" in their direction. Once staging was not an issue for me, but now i can truly appreciate it... and want to strive for it.

Also, i had the coaxials on the HU, no amp for a couple weeks... then when i connected some very modest power to them, they truly came alive! I'll also NEVER use the Head Unit for amplification duties EVER again!

In a tuned SQ vehicle, MDXman's to be precise, it's like i'm sitting in the most elaborate high-end living room's sweet-spot... but i'm in a SUV! Truly amazing what you can do in a vehicle if you really work at it.

Heyya gonz, are those cadence speakers really decent? got anythign to compare 'em to? And what's with the Electroluminescent thing do they actually glow by themselves?

buddy, i have'nt taken em outta the box, but to drool on them!

according to Geo, they're quite good.
i'm not sure if Sandt38 has heard them personally.

as for the EL thing... beats me man!
come spring i'll let ya know all about it.

meanwhile... can you argue with the price?
ain't it worth the shot? in either case?

the construction is very interesting and very nice...
as are the amps, heavy, finished nicely and seemingly solid.
    As for hearing...
the only thing i have heard thus far is the Cadence HT speakers, which replaced an Onkyo set. And damn... am i ever glad i bought em! The Onkyos SUCKED! They are'nt shoddy speakers, they just colored the sound a great deal, and were very undefined and muddy. The Cadence set is crisp, clear, clean and detailed... and i must say, pretty efficient for aluminum cones and titanium tweeters.
They're worth twice what i paid, and i'd pay twice what i paid, no problem.

I've heard no trash talked of cadence, and i read ALOT.
People generally consider them right up with the best, or close to it... but what the hell do i know? I'm just glad i own them.

ive heard at least 10 people, one being a Focal dealer with utopia's in his car, that said they like DLS better than Focal
or at least the Iridiums over the Utopias

PolkMM i can say that I have the Focal Utopias and have a set of 3" DLS Iridiums on the way and i will do an a/b test. But I know that the DLS are a bit more of a nasally sounding speaker than the Utopias. There are however other advantages that the DLS have so its all about what you are grading things on. Me personally i look at pure tonality first and foremost. Utopias have that without question. Im not knocking DLS at all infact I really like the Iridiums but to my ear i just prefer the Utopias better. Again this is going by other peoples installs and until I a/b them I can only comment on what ive experienced.

If you can make it to IASCA finals check out Jamie Edmundson's car as it is all DLS. Scott B's car is a bit of a stretch as he has some really amazing things going on in that car and isnt the average car. I will be there as well with mine if you want to hear mine
