The Passion Of The Christ

It took me a few hours to get over what I saw, and feel comfortable enough to speak about it.

First off, I will mention that I was raised Roman Catholic. I came up in a Catholic school where the nuns used rulers on your knuckles as in class punishment... The metal wire side when you were bad enough. I still have scars. I have recieved my communion. I am non-practicing (as the Catholic Church is not today what I was raised in) but I still pray, and try to keep the Lord in my son's life. My wife is a practicing Presbeterian.

The movie depicts the last 2 Days of Jesus' life, up to and durring the crusifiction. It takes Pilot's ordeal with dealing with the man he did not want to kill, a brief flash of Herod refusing to commit Jesus to die, and the subsequent torture and eventual death of Jesus.

I will just say, the absolute horror of the thought that something like this could be done to a human being, by another human being gives pause to what animals we truely are. Reading the stories of the last days of Christ is one thing, but to see the Man being beaten, tortured, taunted, and humiliated is beyond description. We are also allowed Mary Magdelin as well, and we only catch a glimpse of the torment a Mother was forced to endure. I found the most difficult points in the movie to be the Mother witnessing her Son carrying His cross to His own death, and the flashbacks she had of Him as a youth.

No matter what your religion, watching this movie is enough to realise how little we give to what we believe in. Jesus' conviction and faith in the Father carried Him beyond what anyone else would have done. He continued to rise durring the beatings, He never uttered aloud, and He never spoke ill of anyone, even His attackers, acusers, and convicters. Upon the cross He still spoke and prayed for those who "Knew not better". As the Man was dying after being tortured to the point that there was almost no flesh left on His body, He prayed and asked forgiveness for those who put Him there. Men can just give up and die. Or man can fight to live untill there is nothing left to give. Jesus chose the latter.

His belief and conviction, and what He went through for these beliefs is enough to give one pause. I can only think of 1 way a person could or would go through such things...

This is the most powerful movie I have ever seen, no question, bar none. I am still uneasy about the movie, and I suspect I will be for a while. But, even if you do not believe in Christ the realization that someone could believe in something so much that they would endure what He endured is amazing, totaly beyond comprehension. If you feel you believe in something, just sit down and watch this. You will realize that 1 man believed in something so much more that anything you could imagine.

So what you are saying is that I shouldnt watch this movie on shrooms?!

2 of my friends went to see it on opening day and I made fun of them both non stop for actually wanting to see it. If it is as good as you say it is I will just have to watch it on video; kinda broke right now.

They told me it was a very powerful movie but I just cant commit myself to seeing a movie based on the bible, which I have ambivalent feelings for. I wish I could just go back and time and find out how the hell everything went down and be able to finally sleep peacfully at night...hehe

I must agree, it was a powerful movie. Even if you do not look at the movie from any religious standpoint, it is emotional to think that someone actually endured all that was done to him. It is WELL worth saving the $7 to see. It is such an emotional movie that a woman in my area died of a heart attack while watching it due to the emotional stress she went through. I would not want to see it again for a while though, just that powerful....

That is understandable. I work with a guy who is a dyed in the wool Atheist, but he was going to see this movie this weekend.

Even if you are not Christian at all, the strength of His belief, and what He endured to show this strength is inspireing. You may not believe it, but after you watch this movie there will be no doubt in your mind that He did.

I wouldnt call myself an atheiest because I really dont know if God does or does not exist. I see myself as more of an agnostic( I think this is the word Im looking for) and feel that I need to see it to believe it.

    Glad everyone liked it!

P.S. I hear this movie is antisemitic. Anyone care to share?

agnostic is when you neither Believe or disbelieve

I would say I am with you in that respect.

If you thinking Deeply about these things, your head wants to spin

Forinstace, Everything comes from Somthing, I came from my Mother and Father, If God Created everything, who created him?

Or if you rally get in to things such as the super string theory, which requires ten differant dimensions instead of the 3 we commonly reffer to your really get in to "what is reality, what is........" and it can really screw you up

that is why I never presuded Pyshics, Crazy Shit :bag:

but now I am way off topic, see what your did, you got me thinking about all that SciFi Shit, Time Travel and what not... if you want to talk more about this I will start a whole thread on it, I can go on and on

I'm not argueing here, but if you gotta see it to believe it, how can you believe in the theory of evolution, or the big bang? :p

Anti-Sematic? No. I just have issue with that. The bottom line is the Jews went to several people of power, because each of them refused to commit Jesus to death. The facts have been laid out that Pilot was angered at the condition of the man brought before him. They chose the release of the most infamous, brutal serial killer over the release of Jesus (One Jew was released per year from prison by Pilot, and his offer was for this murderer or Jesus, they chose this brutal murderer). These are simply facts that cannot be denied. Not only is it written in scripture, it is also in Roman history, which has proven to be more accurate and complete than many other civilizations documentation since then. They refused to take no to death as his punishment.

Why is it that people today are so quick to point a finger? Why is it that they are so quick to pass blame off on others? Why is it that people refuse to be accountable for their actions? The bottom line is the Jews were brutal, they wanted him dead at all costs. They beat him, tormented him, spit in his face, etc. The Romans in charge of his torture, delivery to the mountain, and crucifiction were brutal as well, but the Itallians aren't up in arms about it. They (the Romans) were so brutal it was hard to sit their and watch as they laughed and taunted Jesus while making him look like a hamburger patty.

The Jews don't believe in Christ, and that is fine. That is their choice. I have a few Jewish friends, and in fact my name is a popular Jewish name in NYC. I reitterate this because as I stated above, I am not anti-semantic. The facts are the facts though, and I find it hard to believe that they are trying to point the hatred finger at the world for something in their past like that... particularly the way they treat the Germans because of Nazism, and Hitler.

There is a book called The Invisible Landscape by Terence Mckenna which goes into all these crazy things that might exist but the mind cannot comprehend or explore(naturally).

I really started to questions reality and what is normal when I tried Shrooms and DXM. Albeit that they are drugs, they really do make you question reality and what it really is. It opens your mind to seeing things in a different way, experiencing it in different ways and thinking about things in completely new ways. Its something you can not really explain but have to experience it for yourself. The kinda shit you think about on these drugs is rediculous and you feel so enlightened.

Its really weird because drugs are condemend by society but im thinking that guys like Socrates and other philosophers had to be on something. In Amsterdam they have shrooms called Philosophers stones, so thats pretty interesting.

I have read about quite a few shroom and DXM experiences and a number of people have stumbled upon life lessons and such. Drugs would definetly accepted by society if they werent abused so much. People get addicted to them psychologically and/or physically and everything goes downhill from there.
I was about to go into a whole rant about government and the fact that they have no right to tell us what to do with our bodies if its only harming us....but I wont lol......Mike, I went offtrack toooooo.....Im gonna stop here....lol

I never said I did, I said I studied them......

But, Many Believe that the Big Band is proof that God Exisists,

I have never Read the Bible, so I am not going to claim to be a Expert, but does it not say," at first there was nothig, and then god created all that was around us" or something to that effect? In essance this is a big bang.

and the Big Bang, has been ***almost**** proven over the last few years.. with use of dection of Microwaves, Radiastion, and uing extreme math that I will not even begin to explain as the numbers are way to big and I am not good and trig and calculas ;) :lmfao:

The Jews still run our government, they minpulate everything through the world, and they are still to this day just a brutal.....

if it were not for the inflitration of our own government, they would have been wiped out long ago in isreal.

We here in america do infact get censored news about what really goes on in the middle east, I am not saying the Arabs are innocent, nor do I condone any of their actions, but in the same way the Jew of Isreal are not innocent, nor do I condone any of their actions....

There are some intresting Books, and Theries on Hitler too, and thought on what/who really started the world war, and what really happened to to...

Infact one book I read stated that the way history protrayed the facts is wrong, and exaggerated what really happened

But just as the other topics, no one will ever know

I did too, but my choice of drugs was a bit heavier. I used mescalin (Peyote) and LSD. I understand them opening new thoughts and ideas, as they did with me as well. That is a long deep discussion, but it is off topic (if you want to discuss these things we can start another thread, as my experimenting was an obsession for several years, and I have spent the equivalant of at least a year on halucinogens). My cessation of true religious practicing began when my experimenting with halucinogens, beyond a partying atmosphere, and bordering on spiritual enlightenment.

This movie is very eye opening. My intention is not to make you become religious, or to convert you from what your beliefs. In fact, I am quite sure I will not be going to church this Sunday either (hey, I admit it, I am not really a religious man myself). However, I may tread differantly through life because of the message I took from the movie. The bottom line is, this movie did something to me. Who knows, maybe it will affect you similarly, maybe moreso, or maybe not at all.

But due to the subtitles, I might suggest you see it at the theater. Subtitles on a TV have a tendancy to drag your concentration from the movie itself. Frankly, the movie needed little narration anyways, but it is required in certain points of the film. They will also be important if you don't really know what happened, simply because the timeframe is so short, we only really know who Christ, Pilot, and Mary are if we don't have the background of the story.

Seth if you can start a new thread with this in mind that would be awesome!
I would love to hear what you have to say and what you came to realize on your journeys :robot:

I just got back from watching this movie. I completely agree with Seth's impressions on it. Although I see that Seth and I do believe differently on who Jesus was (I believe he is God made flesh to act as a sacrifice for our sins, that sacrifice shown in the movie). But that is another topic as this thread is about the movie.

This movie was a gem not only in story, but the presentation. You get lost in the movie, believing you are an observer seeing for yourself what happend 2,000 years ago. Satan and his demons are absolutely scary. Those that try to help Jesus, touch your heart as you want to do the same but can't. Their failures to help Him tug at the strings of compassion.

I can somewhat relate to Pontias Pilot. What he did was wrong, but I can sort of understand why he did it. Sometimes it is easy to allow peer pressure and our human "duties" to win over what we know is right. Sometimes we see a way to save our own skins (like he did by washing his hands of the incident), but fail to do the truely right thing (to actually release Jesus despite what the croud wanted).

If you haven't seen this movie yet, go see it. It is worth the money to see it in the theater as it is likely to effect your life.

Was supposed to go see this movie with a friend of mine last weekend, but he backed out because he says it is anti-sematic (?) Will try to go see it this weekend perhaps. :)

At first I had mixed feelings about it as I thought it was focusing mainly on the gore and trying to use that to sell a movie, instead of focusing Christ himself and all that he went through for everybody. Hearing your guys opinions it sounds like a powerful movie, with its motives in the right place. I definitely want to see it this weekend.

Background history says Pilot was on "probation" from Ceasar "i'll kill you if you screw up again" kinda thing...

yes jews did it .... its not debatable...they do tend to get riled up when addressed with the facts.. pulling the race card is very weak indeed.
its a much different outlook from a christian point of view to see "jews" kill your saviour than it would be to BE A JEW and be told that your people Killed savior your people had been waiting for, for no reason. No matter how difficult it is to realize this...also realize they fullfilled prophecy and basically.... thats another discussion.
Heres a thought...there is a jewish order called Messianic Jew who accepts Jesus as their saviour...must be a difficult thing to accept.. that you understand that you called Jesus your GOD then turned on him and had him killed now call him GOD once again....now thats....humble and WOW to me...worth learning more about i'd say..
i work with several christian people and one came to me and said it was too brutal ....and had some other thing "ignorant" things to say about it...(keep in mind that i haven't seen it)....
But my first instinct is.... "it was a beating fit for a king" yes its gonna be brutal
It was probably just as bad if not worse than was portrayed....why be as so ignorant to say "it couldn't have been that bad" when you know the rules of Crusifiction... (which this gentleman does) and also the fact that none of us were there to say "yes it was that bad" or "no ...wasn't that bad"

    Let me elaborate...
Crusifiction was only allowed to be dealt to NON ROMAN CITIZENS....
The punishment was so horrible and so graphic that it was ILLEGAL to be dealed to a ROMAN CITIZEN....thats how horrible it was...so what does that tell you.
Yes it was horrible....yes...many people did not make it past the scourging post...
Ones who did ...if they didn't bleed todeath on the way to skull hill they they were nailed to the cross with broken legs in a manor that made it very difficult to breath...so they suffocated there till death.

    I cannot stress this enough.
Now...the act...is violent...it was reserved for the worst of the worst and only then a NON ROMAN...Murderous, Rapist, Vile people... and if you are a ROMAN citizen...even that punishment ...was too much for you...you couldn't have deserved it in ROMAN eyes...

    Wanna know something else?...
Barabbas was the criminal who was released instead of Jesus...

Barabbas' name means "son of shame" or "Confusion"...

Jesus took the place of shame and confusion.......think on that.

I've been raised in a fairly religious protestant family... although I constantly regret not attending church more often. My minister is a good guy, even a family friend.
My grandmother has attended church more years there, without missing a Sunday, and participates in many aspects of the church. My mother is in the church choir, and my Father, a lifelong musician (and music studio owner, and teacher) is virtually in charge of the music program for the church, he plays guitar, and has recently been involved in making the church a little more modern... actually having a band! :p

At any rate, my father is one of the most well-intentioned, well-liked people that I've ever seen in my life.. a true "kind soul".
He went to this movie, and came away saying that he appreciated seeing it, but the gore was too overdone, too hollywood... he felt that it would be inappropriate for a planned church-member organized viewing.
He thought the message could have been made just as clearly without the hollywood "violence sells" Fangoria-style violence.
He found that much to be not only disturbing, but perverted... and believe me, he understood the inherent bloodiness of what was occuring.

That description I know will prevent my wife from wanting to see this movie.. I would have liked to have seen this movie, but I'm also not a big gore fan.. I don't even like horror movies one bit. Maybe I'm weird, but "who wants to see that?"

It seems a shame to me... because that violence is what this movie already has become known for...
That's going to attract those who are "gore fans" (the Fangoria crowd, or not exactly, but you know what I mean)...
And turn away those who might really have wanted this message.

    :(
