Ever since hooking up my Avionixx 600.4, I've encountered this ENDLESS flutter/buzzing sound. At first it was alt whine quite evident in the right front speaker, but I fixed that with an RCA problem. BUT..since then, I've had a flutter/humm problem constantly.... ...Funny thing is...my deck is off, and I have no amps currently installed in the car...so I ask myself...what the hell could it be??? The ONLY thing I can think of is a bad Alt Bearing?!?! This weekend I plan on ripping every wire out and starting again...even though I did a pretty damn good job the first time around.. I just can't stand this noise anymore as it drives me freakin bonkers anymore..
have you gone througth the noise isolation proceedures? i.e 1. Remove RCA --- Is No Prestent you know I just thouhgt ot something,,,,, a Internet FLOW CHART for noise resolutions, I now Lee at CAF starting something like that but never finished it ... to my knowlege anyway that is a good idea
I would think that even with the radio/cd player off, that an RCA problem would not be relevant...please correct me if I'm wrong... This problem is still current WITH ZERO amps and a headunit remaining off! Power wires on one side, RCA's on the other....but I would think a whine with no audio on would be the result of the engine itself, or the alternator..???
Well in my experance with Grounding/Noise issues rule NOTHING out until your 100000000% sure that is not the cause I have ruled out things that I said "would not way be at fualt" then check everything and ended up being what I said could not be Grated is **********should********* not be, but you never ever know, Ground issue make me do this ---> :ranting:
I'm with Mike here. Bad grounds produce about 90% of problems in audio systems. The first thing I would do is change your grounds. Try to keep them as short as possible, and if at all possible grounded at the same point. Make sure your ground wire is of sufficient size, and that the metal on the vehicle is compltely cleared of any paint, primer, or corrosion. For my grounds, I drilled a hole through the floor, sanded the edges of the hole, then ran a bolt through the hole to secure all my grounds. It seems to work great.
Steven...I did exactly what you did...Found that the sheet metal below my seats is pretty much the largest metal piece of the car on the interior. Drilled a whole...and bolted that puppy down...Ground comes from 1/0 distribution... I called Dominick today, and he told me to go charge my red top...so..we'll see what that does....
I had a feeling that you would have done it, but just in case I thought I would mention it. Is one of your speaker wires grounding out?
Do you have component speakers? If you do, move the crossovers away from where they are mounted, they may be inducting a radiated noise from a computer or power line.
Just found out that the noise isn't being made from or through the sound system. It is an odd noise coming from the engine compartment. He's thinking now that it may be the alternator, maybe a bearing going out. Unfortunately the vehicle has a serpentine belt.
Bingo...Steven's got it... Did the screwdriver test and it seems to be coming from the alt.... It's definitely not a HIGH pitch sound...much more silent and moderate...but still DEFINITELY present and not common... Seth...you gots a PM
Gotcha. Follow the tests I have listed to ensure it is the alt, and which bearing. You have my reccomendation of what to do. If it is a Ford, they are notorius for those damn PS pumps though too
oooo...where would I find the PS pump....I don't dilly dally around with my Explorer like my Chevy... Check your PM again Seth...
Big yellow plastic resivoir housing down low on the drivers side (right near where it would be on 90% of all GMs). Those Exploders are terrible for eating them up. I've gotten them new out of the box just howling away like that.
Doesn't sound like it's the PS pump... Looks like it's getting a trip down to Florida to Dominick's place for a fix up
