What exactly is a subsonic filter. I have noticed that some subs require them and some do not, so what is it, and how do you get it? If it is not built into the sub, how do you go about getting one? Is it built in the amp?
Just to set you on the right track and hopefully not to confuse you here i go A Subsonic filter is actually just a HP(HighPass Filter) for lower frequency's. Now what this does is attenuate the sound from whatever setting you have it at. IE You set the subsonic filter @ 28hz. It starts attenating volume (Lowering the volume) from 28 hz down. Most are around a 12dB/oct Attenuation. What this means is For each octive you drop 12 DB in noise or as some would say it decrese the sound 4x. As for some subs needing it not really. You dont have to have it. Just depends on the box and your setup. Some woofers are not capable of playing a subsonic sound given the installation or just the nature of the driver. This will help cut that sound out to stop from unwanted noises or to save the woofer. You normally want to set the subsonic around your tuning freq so that way your subwoofer will not play loudly below it. This way the subwoofer will not unload. I think i covered it. Scott Stoner
Boy you are wordy dude. By preventing frequencies below a ported enclosure's tuning, it simply eliminates unloading. Unloading can damage the driver. Basically, if you are using a ported box you may want to consider one, if you are sealing the drivers in question, it is not nessicary
uh, cough... you guys just know too much... LOL... I would think you would also optimize the use of your amp if you narrow down the frequencies played... Some of my home stereo gear actually had the infrasonic filters which I guess works on the other end of FR curve... hmmm, I do not see any infrasonic filters lately... must be that SACD thing... LOL...
Ok, I am going to have my subs in a ported box, so how would I go about getting a subsonic filter since I know they do not have one built in or something of the sort....
Hifonics BX1500D amp, just running that one to both of my subs. Would you recommend doing that or running two 700-750 watt amps? If you would recommend that, then what 750 watt amp would you say?
what would you all say about a Kicker DX700, I do not know if it would come with a Subsonic filter though, I am running two 12-inch Solobaric L7 subs, so I thougt that the Kicker amp might work well with them, just do not know if it has a subsonic filter.
The hifonics has a SSF and is a great amp What model are the L7's ? You'd have to get the dual 4 ohm version if you want to use the hifonics amp
You'll want something that puts out full power at 2 ohms basically. Which amp that does 1500rms @ 2 ohms is beyond me. I'd look into a pair of amps instead.
Cadence makes the Z1500 which is 2X750@1 ohm or 1500X1@2 ohms. I always reccomend Cadence gear, but unfortunately I cannot point you in the directtion of a Cadence dealer off hand.
I'm keeping my eye on E-bay for some Butler Tube amps (2150 or 475), and a DEI 2500D Tubes and Kodas :ss:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=18796 would that be a good deal then? That is if I could get it cheaper than what he is saying.... just found this one too? I don't know about the prices on these amps http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=18796
The Z7000 is a 1500@ 1 ohm amp, you need 1500@2 ohms The Z1500 is the better amp of the 2 in your case. His price is fair, but you can find it cheaper. PS, A Z7000 is a huge amp also, the Z1500 is considerably smaller (6 inches or so shorter than the monsterous 2 foot long Z7000)
