Yea, i destroyed a vifa PL and Tru t4.65. I hooked up my front stage to the vifa PL via 2-way crossovers to the midrange and tweet, and the midbass straight to the amp. All good. Everything fired up well. Well, i noticed that my HU's internal HU wasn't gonna allow me to cross where i wanted, so i had to go to my 3-way biampable crossovers. Hooked everything up as they should be hooked up, checked that all connections to the amp were correct, put the crossovers back together after going in and changing the settings from standard to biamp, then turned the system back on. Amp lights up, but no sound. The cd player is playing, but no sound. I go to the front to see if i hear a faint noise of any sort, nothing. I hear nothing. Then i smell the smoke. Then i see smoke bellowing out of my door panels. The PL is about to catch fire. I turn the system off, run to the back and begin snatching wires from the crossovers and amps. To my suprise, i smell smoke back there too, but i dont see any. I remove my door panel and there i see the PL with a melted line from the center of the cone to the surround. I look at the lead, and they are burned really bad. I touched one and it fell apart. I remove it, and hook up the 2-way crossovers to see if the midrange and tweet are still ok. I hook it all to two channels of the Tru, and nothing, no sound at all. I'm suspecting the amp is now fried, so i hook up my PG to see if it gives me sound. It does, so the 2-way crossovers and the mids and tweets are fine. My conclusion is the Tru is fried, the right PL is obviously fried, and the 3-way crossovers are unusable in 3-way mode. I dont know why, but i'll figure it out at some point. End of a very very terrible day! BTW, John Yi is gonna take care of the tru for me, but i'll have to be without it for my traveling over the holidays.
Shitty day man. I wish I had a spare amp around here for you to use. Hey holler at me later would you? I gotta talk to you about a certain subwoofer
Holy christ... I'll say "shitty day" I'm sorry... At least Tru is going to help you out... You know the story could just be getting even worse about now, if you had certain other brands of amps in your car. Wasn't the PL being used as a mid? Your last comment "the mids and tweets are OK"... Seems to contradict your statement about the PL, lead falling apart, line burned in the cone, etc. ?? Also a good thing for you... Parts Express has that Vifa PL on sale right now... cheap. Very cheap. B) Check it out without hesitation...don't let the sale end on you, you need replacement!
man that freaking sucks...sorry to hear it... the amp had already been installed before checking connections and whatnot right?
The PL's were being used as midbass. I had MB quart midrange and tweets in kicks. I think one of the crossovers took a shitty turn when i switched it to biamp, and it instantly fried the amp before i could even get sound. Lucky for me my gracious roommate is gonna loan me his PG T600.4 for my holiday travels, and chris (BlkX), i need to talk to you about those PL's you got, i hear you're selling. I hope to be functional by tuesday morning. Atleast the day ended well. Went and did a good amount of partying tonight. Met a few females that made my night interesting. Had a bunch of alcohol. Good night indeed. I'm just getting home and its 4:36am.
Yea, i had the amp running fine until i switched the crossovers to biamp mode. Thats when everything went down hill.
I know i told ya this on AIM, but it amazes me that the amp fried. I'd really love to know what happened once John Yi gets it fixed.... Lets not use the crossovers anymore huh?
You killed my T4.65???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Props to John for being such a cool dude!!
