I just want to see what you guys have witnessed as far as crazy things people have done with the interior of the car. To give an idea of what I am asking for...I have seen aquariums built into the dash (Fishman) plexi glass floor, microwave mounted in the center console. Let me know what crazy cool things you've seen people do to there cars.

A few months ago I thought I'd treat my mom to a 'Mom and Son" day, so her

and I took off to the mall.......

About half way there, a guy pulls up next to us, and wouldn't you know it, his

girlfriend was giving him head, at 70 miles/hour..........

That pretty much ruined the day.......

Heh...I've done worse...which is how I crashed my TBird. Hard to see the road, and drive, when a whole body is on top of yours...huuuuh, the memories. After the car stopped, the frame, up front, was "pushed back" two inches. Hence...the '02 Ranger ;)

The only ridiculous thing I've seen in a car, as far as interior mod's go, would be a completely velvet interior. Roof lining, all the seats, the "carpet", door panels, dash, velvet covered steering wheel...everything velvet. It was a red wine colored velvet, and his Buick Regal was painted a pretty close match. The hood had that tacky looking glitter look to it. Rims were like, 6000000 spoke rims...it was fixed up real nice, if that style is your thing. I wanted to run my keys down the length of the car, though...

I remember seeing a long time ago in a magazine an install that had a record player.

    That's like off-road etch-a-sketch. Not a good combination.

    I'm telling you...

After reading this VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED article:
    http://diyaudiocorner.tripod.com/imaging.htm

I want to invent a mobile LP player...
    High end mind you..
None of this digitally compressed CD and MP3 crap...

Maybe laser tracking to keep the pressure on the needle constant, since the pressure couldn't be done easily, "gravitationally" like on high end home players...
    Hmm...

I am not sure if this would help an in car installation of a turntable but there is a

turntable that doesn't have a needle and reads the LP using a laser. Here is the

    link

I would love to get one, you would never have to worry about the quality of the

cartrige or the tonearm no stylus ware it would be fantastic. but they cost quite a

    lot. [IMG] :jawdrop:

If it uses a lazer, it is probably digital, which he wants to get away from. If I'm not mistaken, he wants to keep the signal analog.

    But then again...........

What if you used a lazer to track in the groove and creates resistance based on how near and far it is. I don't know enough about electronics to know if this would work. But maybe some sort of sensitive light sensor that measures the amount of reflected light. I'm sure that could be analog. Then it can work like an amplifier, that being the input signal effecting a rail voltage to increase the signal. I say this because I doubt that the light sensor can handle much power and still be as sensitive as would be required.

    Holy crap baby.. B)

$10K-$15K for an LP player? Cool idea, but no thanks!

However, Stephen, I'd think you could use a laser and keep what's read in the analog realm, depending on how you pull the information back.

Or, worst case, if that's not true...
For $10K, I want something better than a CD's bitrate...
I'd bet you could get the sampling rate up there high enough to emulate analog quite accurately, depends on how fast it can read, how accurately, how many times it oversamples (and how they align) etc..

That is a simply amazing deck though, christ...

There was a guy that posted up his install of a TV in the middle of his steering wheel a week or so ago....he also had a chandelier hanging in the center of his car.....that one takes the cake for me.
