Tweets are floating around right now though searching for best placement. They're at the corner of the dash right now, and sounds great. i like the stage they set up there, and the distance from me. This new comp setup has a few suprises for you. I think you'll be impressed overall. Gonna give you a hint though........

Love it when your rear view mirror rattles with no subs dont you?

It is going to be truely disapointing when I beat you down with SQ and SPL all in the same 5 minutes isn't it? :p ;) :D

Um, if you don't beat him in SPL something is seriously wrong with your setup :).

I haven't heard this setup yet, but i believe its going to be pretty nice when its all said and done. It will be different sound than yours though.

well seth, if i was gonna come after you in spl, wouldnt i want to have a lil more fire power than a single 12" sq sub getting 500 watts buddy? hehe

I'm confident in my setup as far as SQ goes, but its not by any means anything special as far as spl goes.

Chris knows my secret, and he wont tell.

All I have is a single SQ sub too  ... Do what you want, but don't pull too much of your soundstage up front ;) ... See, my car has recieved an upgrade or 2 since you heard it last... I may be processing a bit more info than I was before

Heh, a single "SQ" sub with 1700w...cmon now. I rather like the sound of having the soundstage up front. I'd rather not know that there's even a sub in the trunk.

Yeah, you're funny like that. Me and cort were talking about that not too long ago... Why do you even bother with subs if you don't like to hear them? I'm not trying to be a dick, but seriously... Think of the $ you could invest into a KILLER 3 way comp set to fill your needs... JL6WO, and a 2 way of your choice...

And it is an SQ sub... And what makes you so sure it is still seeing 1700 watts and ported?

    *cough*critically dampened*cough*

    LOL

I never said it wasn't an SQ sub. I wouldn't consider it a PURE SQ sub though, more of an SQL sub. The IDQ's are closer to an SQ sub. Those Focal SVC 8 ohm 10's are pure SQ subs. You send 1700w to one of those bad boys and it'll blow up in a heartbeat :D.

When i've heard your setup the Brahma was just a bit too overbearing for me... However, with that said, we never really turned the brahma on when i heard the Kodas last, so that will have changed with the added midbass. Before though, i could always pick out where the low bass was coming from.

And i can hear my subs just fine. I don't like to be able to tell that i have any type of sound coming from the rear of the car. I do like to hear some low end that i'll never get out of a 6.5" driver being up front. Therefore it is necessary to have a sub rather than a KILLER 3-way set.

It's not so much that i don't like to hear the sub, its just i don't want it to SOUND differently than my midbass. I like something that blends in well with the mids and doesn't overshadow them.

well guys, i'm torn. I like to hear my sub a good bit more than chris does, but i dont need as much low-end as seth has. I mean, when i think SQ sub, i dont think of a jet engine look alike with a 1600watt rms. NOT saying the brahma doesn't have great SQ abilities, but do you really need that much power when you're supposedly aiming for best sq? Can you really say its a pure sq sub considering the power handling and output capabilities? why would you design a sub like that for pure SQ? At this point, i want to get away with as little power as i can. Thats cheaper, and easier to stay in the class a/b amps. Im with chris in the idea of not pulling my stage back with an overbearing sub, but with seth on the idea of not having it so weak in the low end that a kickass 3-way set would rival it. But seth, if i could get away with it, i'd have a sub sitting in my lap as i drive. I'd love to have that upfront bass presence. I feel i fall in the middle with my current planned and in the process setup.

Oh, and seth, how would i bring my stage TOO far forward?

    Just like I did...

Today Cort came by to hear some of the work I have done. Right now, the Brahma is critically dampened, in 2.5 feet sealed seeing ~425. Did you hear what happened? I have a bit of tweaking to do, I'm gonna accentuate the midbass and subbass a bit more... I have primarily focused on highs and midrange...

Cort and I both agree that we prefer more sub, and I would prefer 600 to it in this enclosure, but that is just not in the cards. This is primarily an SQ based peice of friendly competition. We both agreed that Chris would love the setup as it is now... Subpresance is in the car, not subbass ;)

    YES! :D

I will be throwing around 2000+ of class A/B power to a pair of 10w7s in a 100% SQ based system. :) I like head....room! ;) So I guess with that being said I wont always have 2000 watts going to them and actually I rarely will, but I have there in case I do want it. For the most part I am not a bass head at all. I like my bass to be in proportion with the rest of the music not too little and not too much. BUT also there are some times when I feel like having a little more bass...

    Sir,

You don't need 2k watts on a pair of 10W7s for a sound quality system. You need about 200 watts per channel on your front speakers. I really enjoy the sound of Dynaudio Speaker Systems; they have an unbelievably smooth, rich, laid-back, mellow type sound that sounds wonderful on classical music and jazz.

I would invest more money up front considering these speakers reproduce around 80 percent of the frequency range.

Yea, i've got 200w from a class a/b amp running a single 10w7 and its plenty of bass for me :). I can't imagine what 500w would be like, much less 1kw.

Ah yes, i'll be home this coming weekend for Easter. I believe we will have to go out and play some pool and drink some beers (now that i'm legal!! :D: :D :D :D). I'll take a listen to the new setup and you can take a listen to the w7...but oh wait, i guess you won't be able to hear it since i only have 200w going to it :).

Cool, bro. I haven't seen you in quite a while...

The midbass was impressive, but alas, his "secret weapon" failed him :( . I told him he should've bought Cadence  . Not his setup, but his "secret Weapon" which I figured out rather easily, dropped 1 of the 4 channels. Biamping is not an option right now. The tweets were still bright for my taste, and I keep telling him he needs to do something about that big spread in pointsources  , but he woln't listen. Seriously though, the tweeters are considerably smoother than, I would dare say, all the MBQ installs I have heard... It also looks very similar to the XR tweet... Rubber surround, aluminum dome. But it is still too bright for my tastes. All the digging aside here, what really matters is what the owner thinks. I will like mine better, he will like his better, you will like mine better... Ooops!!! I mean, you will like yours better :p .

Personally, I think my car is too bright right now, and subbass is lacking. I know you will like it much better, and I know cort likes the front stage better (but we both agree subbass is lacking). I'm just looking to line things up better, from an overall SQ comp standpoint. When all is said and done, I am going back to smooth highs, striking mids, and a boomer of an SQL sub. Back to where she came from... I'm just about SQL, sorry ;)

Oh, I should add, I never disliked his system. It has always impressed me, especially when you consider how much he has invested... He does nice work. Hell, for easily twice the money he has invested, most don't sound that good.

Like I say, he deserves to be commended for his work.

the way i see it, low-bass takes up around a 50-60hz range...the soundstage should be mainly up front, most of the "life" of the music, vocals, etc comes from those other tens of thousands of hz playing up front....

Yeah, Courtney told me about the changes. I bet the brahma sounds an awful lot like my w7 now considering the power its getting and the size box its in. And yea, i will more than likely like it better the way you have it now than the way you had it...but we'll see.

I obviously haven't heard Court's new set yet, but if he's saying the tweets are a little bright, then i'm sure they'll probably be a little too bright for my tastes as well. I told him to try and find his 4ch Alpine amp and biamp em again.

And yea, i like all 3 of our setups, but they all sound completely different to me. One is not necessarily better than the other, just different :).
