Hello gentlemen, -Been a while since I dropped by, so happy to see the site still going strong, alive and well. Have a couple of kids now, so I'm not so focused on making stuff really loud anymore, just really enjoy listening to music. As some of you know, I'm a big eclipse fan, But I might have to reconsider that. If we have any guts guys here, I could use a hand with a couple of perplexing problems: 1: I have an eclipse cd 8445 that's been a great deck, just that the display quit working one day. everything powers on, and all of the functions still work, and the deck responds to all of the button inputs and remote control inputs, you can navigate through everything by memory (button sequences), and it all works fine, cd, aux, radio motorized functions- all good.. just no lights. checked the ribbon cable, and it's all clean and properly inserted. seems like something may have burned out, or a fuse, but I can't see anything visually disturbed. 2: I have a cd4000 that is in my ladies ride, and it's been a great HU for a couple of years, but just a few of days ago, the thing started bugging out. You can't get any response from the push buttons on the face, or the remote control. The two dial inputs do work (just the rotating function - not the push function) however, meaning that you can change the volume up and down, and manually tune radio stations. It will play the radio, but it's stuck in that mode, and after a few minutes of playing, sometimes it will change the radio station to one setting higher. (gives the audible beep as if you were doing it.) Then sometimes, it will freak out completely and start rifling through the stations (always up) like you are frantically hitting the up or seek buttons. None of the buttons are stuck on the radio, or the remote and I can feel the positive mechanical press from the buttons as if they are functioning. But I can't get the motorized faceplate to open because the hu won't respond to the cd eject or tilt buttons. Sometimes, the radio will play fine and not change the stations, but it's a rarity - as it happens more often that it plays radio roulette. Also, the tuning dial is unresponsive when the hu is in roulette malfunction mode, while you can still turn down the volume when it starts bugging. eventually it will quit and pick a station, and you again have control of the tuning, but it won't keep the station very long before it chooses another one for you. It goes through the frequencies sequentially as if you were speed seeking, not like it's rifling through presets. I am at a loss for the diagnosis', but all i can do is give you the best description of the symptoms. - let me know if any of you all have any suggestions for either deck.. and I certainly appreciate the time and help, fella's.
1- disconnect all power to unit, disconnect external box, reconnect, then reconnect power to HU.make sure all connections are proper and sound. 2- process chip(s) bad I am thinking, since I cant test it.I would recommend replacing the unit.
Thank you, Steve.. I appreciate the read, and the advice. As it turns out, I am pretty lucky, I guess. I decided to take the unit out, and open it up to see if there was anything I could see (visibly damaged components). Turns out, one of the brackets that hold the unit in place (the locking tab portion in the center of the right side) was getting some pressure applied to it when the trim plate was installed. I know what is causing the spaz now, but I have no idea why it's doing it. I bent the tab over toward the unit about 1mm or so, and there is no longer any pressure being applied to that bracket, and it works fine. I know that it was not pressing the faceplate, because I cannot get it to spaz (while the trim plate is off) by applying pressure to the faceplate, but it will spaz while jockeying that installation bracket back and forth. summary : the trim plate was pressing on the locking bracket, and somehow emulating up/down commands, and not allowing the unit to function properly with any of the input keys, or the remote. Like I said.. lucky dog, minor tweak, still confused but thank you all for reading, and I hope this helps someone else out in the future.
