Hi guys, i have a 2000 Audi A4 1.8t Quattro and I am looking into upgrading the speaker system. It has components in the front doors and 5.25" speakers in the parcel shelf as standard. I'm looking to change the components in the front doors to be run off the stock head unit and stick an amp and sub in the boot and also change the stock parcel shelf speakers which would also be run off the amp. What i'm wondering is whether or not to bother with the parcel shelf speakers as i've heard that subwoofers can sometimes damage the parcel shelf speakers and also interfere with the sound projected.. Is this the case or should I just stick to my original plan. Also, what sort of speakers should i go for in the parcel shelf to get the best sound? 3 way, 4 way, coaxials or components???
    Thanks

you can block the rear of the parcel shelf speakers so that the pressure of the sub wont damage them.

if it were me i would leave the rear speakers on deck power and amplify the front speakers and the sub/s.

do you have a budget for this, and are you getting each item piece by piece when money allows or all at once?

i'll tell you what, you would be surprised how much better a stock speaker can sound with a little more power and a proper crossover setting. maybe you can get your amp 1st and add it plus the sub/s and if it doenst work out you can get new ones up front before you spend money that you may not need to spend. yet.

are the front speakers still in ok condition or do you know?

dont forget to budget in the install kit too. those can get pricey if your going with BIG power.

how much power will you be wanting to add? 300? 500? 1500?

Hi mate. I don't want to change the stock head unit so i will be running the amp via a high level connection. All of the speakers are in good condition i think. I haven't actually looked at them but they all sound ok. The rear speakers in the car are run off an amp already which i think is standard for the A4 but I will be tapping into the cabling of this amp to get the signal for the new amp. I didn't think about powering the stock rear speakers from the new amp, I suppose i could do that in the short term but was looking to upgrade them to get a better sound but didn't know whether it was worth it with having a sub in the boot. Didn't want to ruin the sound by doing it. I've already bought my amp which is a 4 channel mutant MT2004. Haven't decided on the components but looking to spend about £50-£100 really. Sub is a 1000w JBL one and is already boxed. i used that in my old car and it was fine.

i dont know the exchange rate on your currency. do you know how much that is in US dollars?

if the rear speakers all ready have an amp then do you plan to power the fronts on an amp. you didnt mention it in your post.

like i said just a lil more power on an ok speaker with a good crossover will do wonders in a car.
