yup, just paint the steel rims black and slip some hub caps on them. if you're going to use hub caps then i would suggest something without spokes very far apart because it would be really obvious that they are hub caps.

y not just buy some new rims? they are really cheap for those little cars. i bet there is a tire shop somewhere around you that sells used wheels and tires for cheap. i personally hate hubcaps.

 

ya its the same for me too! i just save up forever and then it feels much better to get something.

let us know how the compression check went. stalling could be a lot of things that are just minor. if your compression is good then don't sweat it. where's the leaking coming from?

 

good luck to you. is there any way you can still drive the car long enough to save some money up to get another?


i have one more suggestion. maybe a local school with a repair shop can fix it. back in the day at my school they would work on teachers cars and donated vehicles to learn how to work on cars.

 

hell, if u lived by me, id work on it for 100 bucks and cost of parts to either put a new motor in or rebuild ures, maybe less. i like to do this stuff!

 

you have a corolla? what year? I had a corolla before, it was a 97 model. should have never sold it. they are good cars. VERY good on gas.

 

at least you have a back up car... any pics? you should just work with that and sell the civic for what you paid for it.

 

agreed. then buy a cutlass! if u find a good deal, they are dam cheap! lastnight i totaled everything up for the car, no stereo or anything and it was like 1300 bucks
500 for car
500 for miscellaneous stops at the auto parts store
200 for paint
100 for wheels and tires
i may be forgetting stuff tho

 

Yeah, I would only charge 20 bucks and parts, but compression is the main thing, we did an engine swap recently and someone thought it would be funny to put woodruff keys in cylinder number 1 from the crankshaft. Things started banging around and we got them both out of there unfortunately the damage was done, and the compression should be close to 140 but it was only at 90.

Leak down test provided absolutely no usable info and now

anyway the point is that compression is key, good thing you figured out the gas gauge thing, but if it was anything like my jeep, it's best just to go by mileage anyway.

And remember low mileage cars can still have severe problems, look for the quality of the engine etc. that would be better than getting a car based exclusively on mileage.
