Hello, I have been a car audio enthusiast since before I could drive. After 5 years of owning my own car and playing with different set-ups I think I have learned enough to be competitive in competition. Check out my website (http://eagles.niagara.edu/jsanderson/Impala.html ) for my current set up/install. How does it look? I want to make new Kicks this spring, should both the 4" and 6.5" be down there? The HUGE Focal X-overs secured in the doors. In my opinion my tweeters are kind of worn/ and ragged atleast looking. (Focal TN-51) I am thinking about using Image Dynamics Mini Horns powered off a separate channel and probably even different amp than the 6.5" and 4" Focal mid's. Would I be better off with these? Or should I stick with the TN-51's and relocate them to a better spot? Also, will the Class D sub amp be okay for SQ comp? The subs are in 1.2 cf each sealed. I am going to be adding the Orion DEQ-30 soon, bought for a steal from a friend. All opinions are appreciated! Thanks
We sold image Dynamics years ago, shortly after they come out with the horn loaded compression drivers for the car.....i had mixed feelings about them.....they performed well, but the horns take ALOT of tuning and playing with to sound "correct".....You will have to be very dedicated to get quality results in muy opinion. Not tryin to discourage you, just lettin you know it will take some work to do RIGHT. Now, about that DEQ-30.......When you get it, just forward the package to me!!!!! That was one helluva a processor...i have played with them quite a bit back in the day! Also, Welcome to the site!!!!!
Thanks for the welcome, but looks like I've been here longer than you , just not very active. BTW some of you might like to know the majority of the install seen on my website was performed by Chris E. (GeoLemon) back in the summer of 2004.
id has wonderful subs, but I don't know anything about thier tweets and horns. that's a nice clean install in the trunk.. do you notice much cancellation having the subs pointed at eachother? not picking on you, just wondering.. PLEASE cover the new pods in grey carpeting!
Upon further insp3ction of your pics....have you tried placing the tweeters down next to the mids in your kick panels? That can do some wonderful things for imaging, even making for a nice upper level soundstage. Ideally, in alot of SQ situations, the best approach is to maintain close proximity of your mids and tweets...this is a critical spectrum of music that needs to be seamless from seperation...Virtually all of the stereo information is in these bands of frequencies and must be kept together....otherwise, time alignment and phasing issues can occur.
I Want to move my tweeters down in the kick panels. Should I build new kick panels, possibly including all 3 components because the mid's seem to cause alot of vibrations in the door even after many layers of high quality deadener? Any more reccomendations on Tweeters? How about these: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=276-400 http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=277-045 http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=276-606&scqty=1 I realize none of these are intended for car audio, but surely they could be applied successfully, right ?
I dont reccoamnd the ribbon design..the radiation pattern can be a bit critical in the car! they are better suited to home audio...unless you have alot of time to kill!! LOL!!! The soft domes are always a safe bet... Home audio drivers can be implemented into car audio...no problem....
Sadly, I lost the Orion DEQ auction to one of those bid-slammers! Jeesh, I need to ise one of those next time. So instead, I bought an AudioControl DQT for $215 on ebay. What should I do for speaker placement in the kicks?
