hit 6000 rpms today screwing around lol poor taurus

 

only thing I hate about my Ford Explorer is that there is no redline on the tachometer.

I have no idea why ford is gay and does not put a redline marker on some of there tachs.

Whenever I have to gun it I have to let off around 5000-5500 rpms and let the tranny shift into second when gun it again. I do not feel comfortable pushing a 4.0 liter v6 to 6000 rpms

 

Does the cars computer control the transmission in my car or does that just work on it's own by the gas pedal.

 

Maybe your ford doesn't have a read line or its over what your tach shows on the guage (ie: 11000 rpm) :lol: oh yeah!!!

I remember in my automech class we had a guy who thought hes mustang was so cool. (6 cylinder) we would give him crap all the time about why would people own a mustang with a v6 in it. then we'd all stare at him. He didn't talk much.

 

the guy i knew with the 78 280z didnt know the meaning of REDLINE.thats why he broke shiit all the time.
did i mention before that he was on his 3rd motor.
1.blew out the rear end.swapped motor.found sweet deal on one.
2.threw a rod.next moter.
3.smoked the clutch.
4.snapped drive shaft.
5.broke cam bolt.
6.sold car w/3rd motor init.

 

if you have problems with redlines just get a rotary engine and call it a day.

 

either that or an electric motor with a top end of up to like 50,000 rpms

(I red line my MAAAAZDUH all the time. i had my transmission rebuilt but the trans shop told me that the problem was with a factory part. and not my "driving habits" - plus, they said that with automatics the red line is programmed into the computer and the trans can't go over the red line, like it won't let it, and that the car will shift just fine if you just floor the pedal.)

 

my rpm starts in the redline at 5500 and it actually goes to 7000 but i would never push it to that, i like my car intact lol.

 

I had an old 86 RX-7 and could rev it to 8500 before the rev limiter kicked in. It would fire flames out of the exhaust when I shifted when I rev that high. I went through 2 exhaust systems that cracked due to high heat. Had to buy a ceramic coated exhaust. The engine was rebuilt by a mechanic for the mazda racing team years ago (it used to be his car) and the "real" redline of the engine was around 9500-10000 rpm. That car was so fun. Terrible off the line but once it starts to get going look out. I remember racing my dad for 20 bucks on a back highway where we used to live. He was using a newer grand prix GT. Just as I expected he got ahead by a little in the start but once I got going he just couldnt keep up. I think I shut down at about 130 or so MPH before I thought he had enough. That was the car right before I bought my first DSM and learned a whole new world lol.

 

I wish I my dad was like that....I wanna race his truck vs. mine lol

well my explorer pretty much tops out at around 90 and then after that its like trying to push a vehicle about as aerodynamic as a house any faster

 

yeah my dad might be slightly crazy but he is pretty cool. He would take me on at the strip everytime he got a new car and bet money his new one would take on mine.. he has yet to win.. though if he raced me at the moment I have nothing to bring that would get anywhere lol. He has that mentality that name is everything when it comes to speed. His current wife.. number 6 or 7 .. i lost track.. bought a 2004 SLK230 hardtop convertable. he thought it could take my little 4 cylinder .. (dsm).. so he took me to the track.. yeah i ran a 11.98 @ 119 .. lol .. good luck dad!!! He hasnt raced me since then.
