My youngest got his first car,a 96 Acura intrega 2 door coupe,on the weekend I installed a Alpine 9853 ran deck power to the front components 5.25/1 "hard domes, brand unknown. The rear has some tired out JBL 5.25 co-axials.In the trunk I did a 6th order bandpass with a Soundstream LIL Wonder bridged mono 240 watts. The sound is amazing, but obnoxious,I must teach him that sub doesn't have to run at +15db.Anyhow we will be installing more to power the mids at abut 60 watts rms. What do you think would be good in the rear ?I've been thinking of 6.5 co-axials

Typical teenager, I have one of those. But he leaves the ajustments on the amps alone.

I would'nt spend to much time or money on the rear speakers. Concentrate on the door speakers. Mount and glue some 1/2 or 3/4 MDF boards (what ever fits best under the door panels) to the doors, attach the speakers to the boards. That will really wake them up. Any small amp that will get 50 x 50 watts RMS to the fronts will also help alot.

Just any (reasonably priced) name brand speaker in the rear will be fine.

Our Kids cars are fun projects. It was the first time I ever used tri-mode on an amp, I have a single 6 x 8 (in an enclosure behind the console) and two 3-1/2 driven by one amp. The 6 x 8 is bridged mono and the 3-1/2's are driven stereo, it actually works.

So have fun with your kids car.

What car do you have the tri mode setup in??

And is that a 6x8 inch speaker or sub???

I've always been interested in trying a tri mode setup

I did it first in my sons car, the 3-1/2's are not able to produce low frequencies so I put a 6 x 8 (factory Ford Speaker) in an enclosure behind the console. It has a 0.8mH ( about 800 Hz) coil on it. The 3-1/2's have a 99mfd capacitor on them which blocks frequencies below 400 Hz.

The sound is really great. What the 3-1/2's cannot reproduce, the 6 x 8 does it well and at more than twice the power. The responce is actually really smooth.

It worked so well I also did it with my Ranger. The amp in the kick panel now does my tweeters and the center channel.

    I love tri- mode

My friend has an old Kicker Impulse 2 channel amp...I think it puts out 100 watts bridged 4 ohms....so somewhere in the range of 50x2 at 2 ohms per channel...may buy it from him and try tri mode

It has a gain, bass, and trebal control...anyone think it is worth say...40 bucks??

I've had it in my truck before powering a single 10...did it pretty nicely
