Pioneer FH-P80BT Not Recognising Ipod Touch

Hiya guys,
My car head unit, Pioneer FH-P80BT, has been working with my 2nd gen ipod nano perfectly but I've recently bought an ipod touch and when I connect it to the HU using an ipod adapater lead the HU displays 'error 19' and can't play any music. I've just been reading through the user manual and it says that the ipod touch is supported, but on software 1.1. The software on my ipod at the moment is 3.1.3.

In order to get my HU to recognise the ipod do I need to downgrade the software? Or is there an alternative solution?

Any helpful suggestions would be much appreciated, I really want to get this working.

Thanks.
