My current unit is the Alpine CDE-9874rb. I am looking to replace it.

The spec of the new unit is important but also the look! I say this because he 9874 has a silver finish and looks a little out of place in the dash of my 1998 A4.

So, what should I look for that will out-perform the Alpine and have a more subtle or OEM look?

The features I like on the Alpine which I would wish to retain are:

    Full ipod control.
    High and low pass filters
    Direct subwoofer control.

I am willing to consider any brand.

My long term intention is that the head unit will run an amp for front components and a mono amp for a sub, so higher voltage pre-outs would be a bonus.

Well, I'm an Alpine fan, I would not know how to act with out my iDA X303. Any way back to you, What about the Alpine CDE-126BT.

I'm an Alpine fan too, have used them for years and always happy with them.

However, right now Im looking with a more subtle look like Nakamichi or maybe even Becker but both out of my budget I suspect.

I have just agreed to buy a friends Sony DSX-S100 to replace the Alpine.

It was a bit of spur of the moment decision but I like the internal storage capability for the ipod and it is rated as more powerfull so I hope the sound will be fuller and better?

I will let you know if I made the right decision - if not then it's destined for ebay!!
