I've got a 1955 Chevy I'm restoring to drive. I'm going with just an in-dash receiver that is OK but nothing special. I'm 56 and have some hearing troubles and really can't take loud music anymore. So I'm not going for high power or a sub. Just some average 6X9 3-ways in the rear window tray and a couple of 4" 2-ways in the door. My question is should I use enclosures for the 6X9 speakers? I like the idea to isolate road noise from the trunk but don't want to hurt the sound. Or, could enclosures actually improve lower volume sound and/or bass? I was looking at these enclosures: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_777BB692W/Sound-Ordnance-Bass-Bunker.html And these speakers: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001P86SHA/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER
If the deck of the 55 is as thin as the deck on a 56 (and I'm gonna assume it is) then a layer of Dynomat (or equivalent) will help alot. We also used simple factory type baffles, the wrecking yard let us have the baffles. Check out the last set of pictures on the 56 here
