gas hedge trimmer vs. my finger

well this past monday i accidentally sliced the tip of my left index finger...the trimmer cut it parallel to my finger so there was a half inch flap of meat.

got 3 stitches...sucks. can't get it wet or anything so i have to shower all weird with my hand raised up and in a plastic bag haha...makes me look like a tard.

at first it just felt like a pinch...then i looked at my finger and blood was pouring out all over the place...then i pulled the flap away and saw muscle tissue...at that point i was like this isn't good so i just grabbed my finger with my right hand and applied pressure to stop the bleeding...tryied to wash it out a lil bit under the sink in the bathroom but it just burned like hell and got blood all over the counter.

after that i wrapped it up in some knapkins and went to the hospital...was in and out in an hour an a half...not bad for not being the ER or whatever.

first time getting stitches ever in my life....the only other injuries i've had were whiplash and in 4th grade i cut my cornea....yes i cut my eye right smack dab over the black hole thing...hurt like a bitch.

went in today to have my finger looked at...doc said i go back next wednesday...can't work...****ed

I wasn't even ****ed that i cut myself...just ****ed that i am missing work lol

well just wanted to tell yall whats up...typing is weird as i am using my three fingers on my left hand to do the job of four....so far its going alright lol...weird typing with three fingers and having no left index finger.

yeah if you haven't noticed i type in a "train of though" deal...i don't really like to type in full sentences...more of how things come up in my head.

I feel your pain (or at least I did)....

Bout three years ago I was on vacation and doing hardwood floor in my son's bedroom......I had to rip pieces to match up the first row.....I was out at my table saw and I had to rip about 10 pieces...I was on like #8 and had the piece kick back.....Now.....These were real oak hardwood pieces...3/4" thick and this one was about 16-18 inches long....I was ripping about an inch off and using a push stick between blade and fence....With my left hand I was guiding the pieces, untill it got close to the blade.....I was at the end of the cut...My left index finger eas about an inch away from the board. When the cut finished the WASTE piece kicked back hitting my finger....It stung like getting slapped in the fingernail....I thought "damn" and checked my finger...

It looked like it had been hit with a grenade....If you look at where your nail edge is on the thumb side, go down to the center of the tip....That is where it started...it went 3/4 of the way across the tip and then turned and went up the nail. Bout 1/8 inch above cuticle it turned and went towards the middle finger before stopping...Took 9 stitches by plastic surgeon....The meat was all loose basically from the last knuckle to the tip....I shattered the bone at the tip and there were fragments I could see on the x-ray...I had to keep it wrapped and elevated above my heart for three weeks.

That was the most painful injury I have ever had.....I was off work for two weeks and then went back...I am a mechanic so fingertips are used all the time.....It was painful for me to slide my left hand in my pocket for a good month.....I played a gig (drums) exactly one month after the injury.....It was hairy to say the least.....All the **** attaching back over time hurt like hell..Sitting there and all of a sudden it would burn or feel like a needle sticking me for 10-15 seconds at a time...

Yeah.....it sucks ass.....glad it was not my right hand

one time.....at work........i had my right index finger crushed by like a few hundred pounds of pressure......i was hand washing the printing blanket

it was stuck there for over a min.it didnt hurt until a few mins later.then.....holy crap it was throbbing and all i could think of was those stupid cartoons that show this bowling ball sized finger just pounding away.


i just started laughing....everyone thought i was freaking out,but i was fine.it did break my finger tip.....did you know that bone takes over a year to heal completely?

oh yeah and this jackass at work had his right index finger crushed off.only half of it.and yes...CRUSHED off.he stuck it into the press while it was moveing.

I cut my toe off about 30 years ago....It was sewn back on.....still cant feel it to this day....

yeah when i went in for a check up on how my finger is doin..i have no feel in the tip of my index finger.

I have no idea how this will affect my guitar playing though...hopefully i wont be able to play for too long

yew your sick.i saw it at the hospital.(i had to drive him)it was a meaty red mess.

to give you(azn)an idea of what he did. he stuck ithis now ghost finger) into a spot on the press that has a rotating swing gripper.when this gripper is in the down position.to pick up a sheet of paper.the space under the gripper and feeder table is around 3mm.sooooo you can imagine what it did.

actually he didnt fell tooo much pain and niether did i.for me it felt like someone stepping on my finger.for him he felt like it was hit by a hammer.BUT... later OMG.

his was deff worse.he came running to me asking if i could help him put a bandage on it.he didnt know he was speckled in blood.
