Viking my brother had that same problem. He bought a 2006 chevy with the duramax in it as it was all hyped up to be bad ass at towing. He tows a 6-7 ton horse trailer and that piece of **** duramax would overheat every damn time we hit a hill.. it was just terrible. He kept going back to the dealer like wtf is the deal. They couldnt make him happy so he just traded it in for a Ford F250 and has yet to have an issue with it.

dodge has good diesels. I have a good friend who is a chevy lover but he decided to get a dodge diesel over a Chevy. The main reason is because it has more power and he chipped it and now he can spin the dual tires in the back. Very sweet.

Here is my biggest problem with the chevy duramax....Its a low displacement engine, supposobly developing lots of HP and torque.....and it redlines at like almost 5000........WHAT THE PHUCK?????
They are letting high revs build what poweer they have.....Diesels ARE NOIT MEANT TO RUN LIKE THAT!!!!! At least not pullin rigs......
Dodge and Ford have larger motors and lower rev limits....and will pull a freekin freight train. AND last for years doing it.
I am sticking with what works...and thats more displcaemt and lower revs. That equates into longer life and better efficiency. Chevy cant build a diesel worth a shyte...never have and never will.

Chebbie is a 6.6 liter, Ford is a 6.0, replaced by a 6.4, and the Dodge/Cummins is a 5.9.
The Dodge combination has been the most durable of them all, actually. The Ford 6.0 has been so bad, Ford quit paying Cornbinder for the junk they were sending them. Appears the 6.4 isn't starting out much better. The Duramax has been plagued by overheating/underheating issues since its inception, with numerous "fixes" out there. Bout all I can say about those smudgepots. I don't work on them, I don't want to work on them, and no one can make make me work on a clatterschtinker. They smell, they are loud, and they ALL leak oil. And, it isn't just a plain ol leak either. They leak that black tar looking stuff that won't wash out, no matter how hard you scrub.
They all suck.

I changed oil for many years of my life (car audio was something I accidently stumbled into) and the one thing I dreaded was diesels. They sucked bad. I dont care if it was a truck, a car or whatever.
They all suck
