OS's
Well, i got nailed by some freekin virus tonight, killed all the exe's on some of my more favorite programs, and wiped out a few other less important things....... (screw windows)
i have been running on windows for about 4 weeks due to a router problem here at the house, could not for the life of me get Linux to tie in directly to the DSL modem. Anyway...
i am getting ready to wipe my Hard drive, again.......
this time i am thinking about going with a different lnux distro. I am think of K ubunto. Have used SUSE 10 for a LONG time and works well, but it does eat up alot of system resources, jst as bad as windows in my opinion. I have read and heard good things about it, A best freind swears by it. Any of you have any Linux experience?
It will be used STRICTLY for the internet, email, photos, things like that, things that can be messed with in XPeeee. i will still have a dual boot sytem, just so i can play my games on XP, other than that, Windows is used for nothing else, well except programs that ONLY run under XPeeee
SSo, what are yalls take on Kubunto? Anyone???????? or any otherL inux distro for that matter?

You have got to stay off them porn sites. How many times have you been told.
I have run Windows forever, with Nortons Antivirus, McAfee Firewall (set to paranoid) a Linksys Router (of course a router has its own Firewall). I can honestly say I have never had a problem.
What kind of router are you using? And what anti virus program are you running? (its not working)
I also have Windows Defender and Ad-Aware Pro. And sometimes I still do not think I have enough protection.

Personally I believe that Windows XP is good for home use. Because of it's easy to use. Linux is mostly used alot for programmers, or people needing to run servers. You say you just need it for net, games, pics. They say that Norton is a good virus cleaner. But I don't really get it. I don't think you recieved a virus. You visited some site, and your firewall should ask you "blah blah blah for blahblalh to Connect. Accept/ Deny" If you accept it, thats inviteing the problem right onto your computer and into your system.
Theres problems with that on Ebay. They have a hotlink or a picture there. But it's something harmful. Alot of things can be done. I keep myself protected up because I know computers.

The router is a linksys, cheapo from wally world, its puked. The Anti virus is AVG, along with spyware blaster, usually does good. Also have ad aware.....
Normally i cruise the net ONLY on Linux, dont use ANY virus protection or any adaware programs, dont need it really. Most viruses are coded for Windows. With Linux, i can go to virtually ANY site, and not worry about getting hit with something. Even porn! Never had an issue with linux.
I did some talking on another forums i frequent, sounds like the virus got downloaded from a UT map.....I know the owner of the server, it should be taken care of.

Open internet explorer, in the address bar type 192.168.1.1 and see if you can access it.
