Ok, My Cable Bill just went up from $86.90 to $122 per month

Breakdown is as follow's

Basic Cable -------- $46.39
Digital Silver ------- $30.60
Internet ------------ $42.95
Modem Rental ----- $3.00

Plus I pay $16.95 to Vonage for Phone Service.

Now comcast is 3mbps keep that in mind

SBC just offered me the Following

Local Phone Service Basic $13.00
Basic DSL Service (1.5 mbps) $19.99 (after 1 year goes to $27)

So if I drop the Comcast Internet and the Vonage phone service I save $26.91 per month and I can upgrade for $10 to the Faster 3mbps dsl if I need the speed which I dont think I will because I was on 1.5 with Insight before I moved to indy and got comcast.

I will also be Dropping the Digital TV box and Save that $30 as well

My question is, am I making a good move going from Cable to DSL, never had DSL so I dont wont to make a Bad Choice...

I use to do alot of Downloading and what not but ever since I signed up with Netflix I pretty mush stopped all of that....so I dont think the Speed will bother me too much for just normal surfing..

What do you think? is it worth the savings?

Comcast Just screws themselevs.... Me a Reliable Customer will be leaving because they want to gouge the Good Long Term customers while give promotions to new people that may or maynot pay their bill like that know I do...........

Ohh will I am 99% sure I will be switching to SBC after this billing cycle

Well... I have DSL here, and frankly it is better than my cable was. I always had problems with my cable not working. The loading times for pages stayed the same (for me at least, this might not be the case for you), and I noticed a SLIGHT difference in the time it takes to load games, movies, etc...

My internet costs me $9/month, and it's probably more reliable than your cable - if it's anything like the Adelphia cable garbage around here.

I believe Adelphia is even more than your ComCast... my mother is paying about $125 for cable... that's for basic digital cable, cable modem, and one movie channel.. HBO maybe?

DSL is outragious in my area, and I refuse to be ass-molested by Adelphia again (they did me wrong in my old house, and today stick it to my mother)... so I'm stuck on dialup for now. NetZero baby.

Truthfully, it's not that bad. I connect every single time at 53.2, and pages load just about as fast as cable, save for really huge pictures. If you were browsing forums, like this one, you wouldn't even tell the difference, there's not much going on, grapically anyway.

Of course, we all know Michael's internet porn fetish.... I suppose that alone would rule out dialup...

Never go back to Dial up..........

and comcast is reliable, the problem is the government sponsored monopolies..

Companies like comcast have long had no comptition so now they dont understand how to handel it..

I have to say the Baby Bells are Much Better at it

for example, SBC (my local Teleco) offers 2 DSL Plans . a Cheap 1.5 Mbps for those that just want to get around the web fast. and then the Power Users can get a 3Mbps one which is the same speed as Comcast Cable, for about $10/mo less than comcast

Now if Comcast would also offer a Lower Speed Line for 1/2 the price I would probally stay with Comcast...

Then there New Gimmick is that "Digital Cable" When I first Moved down here it si $10 to get the Box and On Screen Programming Guide, so I got it.. Now some How the Lowest Digital Cable plan is $25

WTF.. sorry but a onscreen Program Guide is not Worth $25 a month... So they can come and Get their Damn Box back...

It was Funny when I calledd to Downgrade the Lady was asking "do you not like the service" I said

"Service is Fine but Since comcast feels the Need to Screw People over I dont want it anymore"

She did not know how to reply to that one ROFL

and that was just to down grade my Digital Cable...

I will really let them have it at the end of this billing month when I drop everything except for Basic Cable

I may even look in to SBC/DISHNETWORK offer... but I have to check with the apartment complex first

I cant wait to see the Cable Compines Reaction to the Other BabyBell Verizion Annonucment to Bring Fiber Optic IN TO THE HOME and provide TV services

I have used both. I went with DSL about 4 years ago and had nothing but problems. Upload speeds are slower than cable for large files, but download speeds are about the same. I had to refresh my DSL modem almost daily, where I have little issue with the cable modem. I have had multiple modem failures with the cable, but my DSL modem had none. However, I did have a ton of software issues with the DSL, and if I didn't physically remove my modem's plug from the computer I had blue screen errors on shutdown. I was using the Alcatel external USB modem.

I have no explination for why, but some sites were faster with DSL than cable, and others were slower... overall they evened out, but it was weird... I am not sure if it had anything to do with the service or what.

I like the cable better... both my phone company and issues with the modem left a bad taste in my mouth for DSL.

how much do you pay?

if I used it as much as I used to I could justify the $45 a month

I dont know.. I hate to switch and then have problems but $20 vers $45 is alot...

Just something about Comcast has been ****ed.. I am still working out a way to drop them all together and go with the small dish's :P

I just did more comparisons

Right now for the "big 3" Phone Cable and Internet I pay $145 per mo going with Comcast/Vonage

if I switched to SBC/DISHNETWORK that bill would drop to $80 per mo saving of $65 per mo..................

Damn that is a pretty big savings... I am going to have to really think on it... I had Dish Network before and it worked pretty good and now I hear they have really improved it so I might just do it..

I wish it was not such a pain to switch because going back right away is near impossible

if I could get high-speed access at anything near $20... hell, $30... I'd be on it so fast the tip of my pen would catch fire from signing the check.
