I am really new to this whole car audio thing. I am good with computers though, so I have some technical knowledge, Im not a complete buffon

Anyways I need your advice for car audio stuff because I dont know anything basically. I just got an alpine 7894 installed in my 98 explorer xlt with premium sound and 4 doors. I really like the HU. I also got some crstal CSc50 5.25" components for christmas (with the titanium tweeter). Those are for the front. I was supposed to get some speakers for the middle door, but I have been told by some that it will mess up the "imaging" of the components. So, should i buy some coaxials for the back? if so, what are some good 5x7's.

Also I want to run an amp. Keep in mind im still in high school (Im a senior), and dont have a real job but I will have about another 100 (not total amp budget) bucks this next week at least for some computer work i am scheduled to do. Ill have like ~200 to spend on an amp, the cheaper the better.
So an amp for those 2 up front if i dont get some back speakers, or an amp for all 4 if I get back speakers.
I dont really feel comfortable installing the speakers, but if you think I can do it and I can get some direction it would be appreciated. I dont feel like dishing out another 158 to get the front speakers installed only.

I think I could do it myself but i would needs lots of pics and explanations. I live the in SF bay area so if anyone around was able to help me out if i mess it all up it would be appreciated.

Hopefully that makes sense and you guys can help me out

oh and nice forums, ill have to come here more often now that I am registered.

Rear speakers will ruin the imaging of the front stage. However, as big as you vehicle is, I might suggest them (just coaxials, nothing real fancy). I would also suggest running the front stage off a small 2 channel amp, and leave the rears to fend for themselves off the HU (this is also keeping the $ issue in mind here). I do suggest this because you can fade the rear stage out and be able to just have the front stage running if you are alone in the vehicle. Later on, I might suggest a subwoofer install to really round out the whole project.

by the way, I suggest you install it yourself. It is not very hard, and we will be sure to guide you in the right direction. By the way, nice equipment selection

i agree with using the amp on the front speakers. i would have also liked to see a subwoofer somewhere in the design. many forms of music benefit greatly from such a speaker. in my experience, systems without a sub either sound boomy at like 80hz, or sound like they are trying too hard. and since nothing is usually done to the rear wave, they usually are trying too hard!

i'd reccomend getting a 4channel amp. most 4 channel amps will put out enough power to front speakers, and you could also put an amp on the rears OR add a small sub (a 4ohm SVC or 2ohm DVC).

yeah i would like to add a sub for my birthday in march. I should also have more christmas money coming to me. Can you guys recommend good amps? Also what sorta mounting plates do I need to put in my components up front, the stock slot is 6x8 or 5x7.

Arg I cant decide whether or not to get coaxials for the back.

personally I dont care for rear full unless its setup right, which is quite hard to do. so I say save the money a put it on some nice fronts. theres a ton of good amps just depends on your price range and power/load.
So you give me the fronts you looking to buy and ill help you fine a nice amp for them.

ive got those already. If i had known i wasnt gonna get back speakers i probably would have bought a better pair. although its tempting to get a pair of pioneer rev serires 2 way coax's for the back, im not sure though.

if you have nice components in the front you really wont care about rear fill. it dosent matter unless you are in the back seat
