Question

I have a few questions. First off, do most agree that Alpine and Eclipse have the best decks for sound? I 've been told that kenwood decks are crap and would like to get something that may produce better sound for my system. I have Focal tweets and mids, JLAO amps, and alpine subs. I'm sorry I don't know the model #'s of everything, I'm a girl and we usually don't pay much attention to that stuff. I am unhappy with my current kenwood deck and seeing as how my warranty is up next month I was looking to find out a good alternative. Price isn't really an issue but I don't need to spend a crap load unless it's an absolutely awesome deck. Some idea's would help me out.

yea Alpine, Eclipse, and Pioneer are up there with the best.

the Pioneer DEH-8600MP is a fantastic deck with more than enough features to do anything you want!

Well I agree with you but i also disagree. Having a bad deck doesnt doom your systme, You dont need to go out and buy a 400 dollar head unit for good sound quality or loudness. I went from a Pioneer DEH-P9600MP(msrp $450) to a Jensen 7610(msrp maybe $100). Put it back on my term lab, not even a 1 decibal defacit.
You could buy a $150 headunit, and then a $100 4 channel amp, and be way louder than a $400 dollar headunit.

I disagree. I had a JVC KD LH1000. I hooked up a Alpine 4 channel, and the results were, hissing, poping, and overall poor performance. After checking grounds, regrounding, grounding rca's, etc, it seemed like chance of crisp, clear, loud, respectable sound was lost, until... you guessed it, i swaped out the deck. I chose the Alpine 9855 (highest model at the time). The difference was astounding. I couldn't believe it. It was so clear, and so crisp, and so loud, all because of the deck. Turns out the jvc just couldn't run that amp, the output was weak.

That's right. Wait until it's on sale. The price of all alpine and eclipse decks have gone down.

Not everyone is going for high db. If you want sound quality, you don't want Jensen. If you want sound quality IMO, you want JL Audio, Alpine, or Polk.

Maybe louder, but as clear? As efficient? As crisp? 100$ 4 channel? What brand?

exactly.

personally as long as that kenwood (which I hate from an ergonomics adn aesthetics standpoint) works fine, and has a decent preamp out put of 4v's I wouldn't change it until it blew up, unless you are looking for some feature it doesn't have like internal eq level etc.

What is the issue you are having that makes you want to swap heads? I still run the same head i got in 97... a Clarion 755 dz. CD players last years...
