I understand your position, but I must say if you had the driver for a few weeks you know there is simply no going back to JL... The sound is simply that much better.

It is worth the wait, I feel... when you get it back you will agree.

Also, this is funny... I know of very few MKII failures. You say the spider seperated from the former? I am interested in the failure and the install information. Please share...

I've heard of glue failures where the edge of the spider lets go of the basket (in fact - one of my 10W6's did this years ago... I fixed it and haven't had a problem since)...

...but you definitely don't often hear of failures where the spider lets go of the former/cone joint... particularly with the liberal quantity of the rock-hard glue that they use on what they refer to as the "triple joint" (cone/former/spider).

I didn't know there was an issue with parts for the subs...
Do you have a MkI, or MkII Brahma?
Possibly they are all tooled up for MkII's now, and don't have any MkI cone units currently - since the basket for the MkII is slightly deeper, the cone unit will be slightly different - simply in that the MkII former is deeper, save for any changes that I don't know of otherwise.

It's a Mark II. Here's the email I just got tonight... AHHH.

We have examined the Brahma and found the voice coil to have charring, the
tinsel leads were worn and frayed, and the spider looks to have torn from
the triple joint. These are indications of abuse and we have decided not to
cover the driver under warranty. We can recone it for you for $99. Please
let us know.

To prevent this problem from happening again, we recommend the gains on the
amp being turned down to the proper level and a subsonic filter added to
prevent over excursion.

Warranty department,
Adire Audio

I had the subsonic filter at 125 Hz... It was in a .92 cubic foot sealed box at first, but here's the thing. I don't know too much technical aspects of the sub, and it would sound a little distorted when I turned up the sub. Apparently, the guy who installed it at hi fi buys thought it was Dual 4 Ohm. It is not.. as I found out later, it is Dual 2 Ohm. So i had it running at 1 Ohm, and I was pushing it with a 1501bd Rockford Fosgate amp, so it was getting ~ low 2000 watts RMS- altough it is rated for 900 watts in that enclosure size! ****. call me retarded, please. is it worth getting reconed?

I'm sorry it is taking so long. I do want to point out that our website says: "Turnaround of received warranty products takes a minimum of 2-4 weeks". But of course we do our best to beat that time. We are unfortunately out of coils, and are awaiting new ones. We have been doing what we can to get these things in as soon as possible. But in the mean time we have stripped down all the recones we have so when the parts come in we can have them rebuilt as soon as possible. We do not like having our customer have to wait to get their sub back. We would much rather have you enjoying your sub.

Yea, I was just venting. I loved that thing when I had it. I'm actually thinkin about getting it reconed (if it is worth it) as well as buying a new one... But then again, could you "feel the bass" in a sealed box with two twelves? I can in some of my friends car (who have multiple subs in a sealed box), but I definately couldn't when my Brahma was in a sealed box... Has anyone heard 2 Brahma 12's in a sealed box...?

Err... I'd say it was the installer's fault. They should have checked it with an Ohmmeter if they weren't sure. Then again, when you heard distortion....

Do you mean, 25Hz?

yea, I would make HiFi Buys Pay for it, it was CLEARLY an Install Problem and they (last time I check) warranty their Installation for LIFE..

so they should pay the cost.. Take the Email in to them and say "your installer blew my **** up I want my Money"

as far as the Subzsonic if you had ti set that high, how in the held did you hear anything? t125 would effictivly make your subwoofer a Midbass since everything below 125hz would be FILTER out..

are you sure it was not the low pass crossover, that would be differant

I am sure it is worth it, but having the customer pay for a recone is a rarity anyway. Most major manufacturers do it free even in cases like this but......
