destroying my cds!

i have a 1998 ford escort that has a pioneer DEH-P735 headunit in it. this head unit was in the car when i bought it, so i do not have any of the manuals for it. anytime i hit even the smallest bump in the road the cds skip horribly. after a few bumps the cd is so scratched up it will no longer play correctly. my question is: is there anything that can be done to fix this? if not will simply replacing the head unit solve this problem?
thanks in advance

Just buy a new h/u. That old ass decks skip protection has been outdated. Get a nice Alpine h/u.
